This is a spinoff of the young kids riding in backseat thread...yes there are rules and laws in place based on where a child can ride in the vehicle based on either height/weight or age.

I asked a question in that thread that went unanswered, so I did some googling.

Kids(even infants) are allowed to ride in single cab trucks. Also, children as young as 5 can ride as passengers on motorcycles in Louisiana.

Those two allowances sort of make the forcing kids to ride in the back seat laws questionable

Totally agree. The front seat thing is mainly about the airbag, but there are other dangers in allowing it.

Kids who ride in single cab trucks and on the back of motorcycles aren't pussies. It's pretty simple I think.

Bed of the truck is the best option

Back in the day, it was referred to as a "package shelf". Of course anything left there went airborne in an accident, so that term has been thrown out, as well.

You could lie up there, look at the stars, and fall asleep on long drives.

We used to ride around with no seatbelt and half our body hanging out the passenger window. The bed of the truck was also fun. Kids today are just pussies.

Youngest of 5 kids, my entire childhood was spent in the "way way back"

yep, in my moms oldsmobile delta 88.

Thats back when a car wouldnt go 75,000 without falling apart but still rode like a champ and had seats that were like sitting on a sofa.

cars suck now for comfort.

We used to sit on the toolbox in the back of a pickup truck with our backs to the window.

I'm amazed we are still alive.

It's amazing that is still legal.

I don't want to live in a world where it isn't.

Yep

Caprice Classic with a rear facing third row seat that folded out of floor. That car was GOAT for long trips.

I use to ride in the tailgate of a single cab truck all the time. Sometimes on the interstate.

I don’t think you know what a tailgate is.

Sometimes we'd start in the backseat and then climb out of the sliding back window onto the toolbox in the bed.

First time I rode in my friend's mom's new Country Squire in that backwards seat, I got sick as shite and puked in the back of it...
