Who somehow has the boss hoodwinked to think he's doing a good job? Everyone else can see through it except for the one person who matters.

Every corporate setting has the nice guy that gets along with everyone and goes out of his way to help people with non work related things, but completely sucks at his job and never produces anything. Thats the guy that has a stress free 30-40 year career.

I worked for the 2000 census and I was an idiot.
LSU was offering internship in my major for zero.
Back in 99 the census bureau offered us $12/hour to do questionnaires at a different school.
I opted for the paying internship. I just needed to clear it with my academic advisor and dept head that what was doing, pertained to my major. Somehow they agreed.
I think they just wanted me out of there.

Work with plenty of them… I’m in construction , more than half the superintendents, project managers, etc. have bullshitted and kissed arse to get the position they hold…

Once worked at a place where the CEO assembled a core of the stupidest people I've ever encountered in a workplace, and I believe on purpose.
They were useful idiots, total bootlicking pushover that followed her every directive without question and were fiercely loyal to her.
She at times showed a complete inability to handle or confront friction in the workplace because she became so unaccustomed to it.
All that to say... sometimes there is a reason the boss keeps that moron around
