At least do one decent, unselfish thing in your life and give your family the courtesy of telling them. That way, they won't waste another second of their life worrying over or looking for your sorry arse.

Somewhat did that after college. I still talked to family of course though. Just decided to go for awhile and have fun then came back and started working.

Before the computerization of records this must have been commonplace. You show up somewhere and pretend to be a new person.

i know a guy that turned up missing one day.
just vanished. gone.
was married, but no kids. left for work that morning and nobody saw him after that.
then several years later someone we both know ran into him in another state living under another name.
said he acted as if nothing had ever happened and it was totally normal to just move halfway across the country and change your name to get away from it all.
he did resurface briefly once word got out that he was alive and well. came back long enough to legally divorce his wife before just driving off again.
of course this was before everybody had smart phones and internet, so was a lot easier to pull off than it would be today.

I feel like before the internet this was much easier to accomplish without getting bothered by people
Now with social media, credit cards, gps, iPhone it’s pretty damn easy to find anyone, anywhere at any time

I think there’s something completely pathological going on with people who do things like this. I have no idea how someone can think they can just disappear and literally not one single person will care.
If you want to divorce your wife, then divorce her. Tell her you want out to her face. Even if you don’t think you owe her that, you owe it to yourself. Don’t be a coward and run and hide like a bitch.
EDIT: I’m talking to your friend as if he’d be reading this

When you say, “once without” was this a wife or dependent children?
Nope. By myself. Just after my divorce
Resourceful people will find a way to make things work. I think hint every guy has a fantasy about doing it at some point or another.

was freaking weird.
by pure chance, they literally bump into each other in a public place.
Missing dude never missed a lick. Told him hello, asked about family, etc. as if they had just lost touch over the years. then tells him his new name and how amazing life is, etc. and was genuinely shocked that other guy was kinda freaked out by it.
even when he came back into town, he made it seem as if he had only been gone a week or so and everything was normal.
i mean quite a few people assumed he was probably dead. And this guy doesn’t understand why people are looking at him funny.

My wife (no pics) and 4 kids, especially our 8 week old would never notice. But, I'm not that trashy.

Gotcha. I see nothing necessarily wrong with that.
I just think ghosting on people who rely on or care about you (which is what the OP seems to be implying) is wrong.

Sounds like he has some sociopathic tendencies. I couldn't do it just knowing the angst of those I had left behind. The thought is tempting at times though.

Absolutely
Ive always been upfront. But hitting the road, finding a new place used to be normal. I actually think the muting f an adventurous spirit creates depression and anxiety in men.
Men have strong desires for adventure and taking risks, women crave security.

Got a buddy that is a pilot for Southwest. He flies International and had twins. 11 months later, more twins. He said it was brutal nightmare at home and told me this thought crossed his mind a few times.

I think about it every day.
