If my parents named me Cole, I'd want to start over too.

Good luck Cole

People have done this for centuries and done just fine. It all depends on your personality and how well you adjust to new things.

For the most part, attachment leads to suffering.

I guess it depends on who “everyone” and what “everything” is. But I doubt this is nearly as awesome as it appears on the surface.

My advice is to stand your ground and fight whatever monster is causing you to want to flee.

Bruce Springsteen did it and it worked out just fine for him.

He had a wife and kid in Baltimore, Jack. Went out for a ride and never went back.

I came so close to doing this several times over the last year. At the moment, I seriously regret not pulling the trigger.

What would happen if I just left town with the clothes on my back? I'm talking about ghosting everybody and everything in my current life and not coming back. I know I won't, but it sounds like an awesome concept.

I did, i was working at Chrysler, making good money, and decided i fricking hated being a rat in a cage(i'd shoot myself if i had to be an office bitch like many on here).

So, i left the job, moved to Satellite Beach and lived with a relative, making $10 an hour learning a skilled trade, and loved every minute of it. Sure, the paychecks were shite, but it was a godsend. Moved back to St.Louis in 2001, and found a job i love, and while i've been offered more from other companies, i'll stay where i'm at. 17 paid weeks off is 2 good to give up.

Then he

met a friend at this roadside bar. He was walkin in, he was walkin out.
They went back inside, sat down, had a few drinks.

Nah, they put their makeup on, fixed their hair up pretty, and met up that night in Atlantic City.

I think most of us would be shocked to know the number of retired people actually living out of RVs with no permanent home.

It is crazy to me. If I am going to drop 6 figures on a RV just to move around the country I think I would just drive and stay in hotels.

Ive done it a couple of times. Once with family, once without. No regret.
I also cashed out and travelled the world for a year, it was awesome.

I don't think it'd necessarily need to be a "only clothes on your back" sorta deal, nor completely severing all ties situation. In the end, most of people in life are just passing through at various stages. Even the vast majority of the most important folks are barely in your life as you get older, strictly from a pure time standpoint. The math simply doesn't shake out otherwise as much as it is hard to admit. In the end, the journey is yours. I wouldn't look down on anyone from choosing to move on to a completely different situation than what they are currently in.

When you say, “once without” was this a wife or dependent children? I think there’s a difference between that and moving away from extended family, parents and grown children.
