Time to jump in and grab it.
I’m at my future in laws prepping to go over to their family friends place. Not a drop of booze in sight and her brother who is a junior in college won’t shut up about cryptocurrency

MIL is 82. Insists on cooking all sorts of shite, even though she's coming to our house and we've already cooked plenty.
She also has no business driving.
We've gone through the "please don't cook and please don't drive" routine for the last 5 years as her health has continued to go downhill each year.
So, about 2 hours ago, wife leaves to go pick up MIL (an hour away) while I finish up the prep.
Wife arrives to find MIL decided to "go to the store" to buy groceries so she can "cook things" but instead ran her car into a tree in her driveway and has been laying in the driveway for a couple of hours with multiple injuries.
9-1-1 has been called and the ambulance is on the way.
I'm waiting on the call from my wife to see if my kid and I are going to meet her at the emergency room, or if she has some other plan for us.
My BIL and SIL, who also live an hour away from MIL, can't be bothered to help with any of this shite.
I always enjoy this thread, but when I sat down to read it today, I didn't plan on being a participant.

Sounds like they make good decisions.
Also sounds like your MIL needs to be not driving and in a facility or, if not possible, given around the clock supervision by family.
That's a crappy situation all around.

Luckily it was floating within reach because the pool is right around 57.
Also, we all took edibles and they just kicked in.

Oh boy. And now your Christmas is going to be ruined after your wife has to have the “we are taking away your license” conversation.

He thinks every idea is the next big thing that nobody has heard of yet, I’m just biting my tongue until the liquor starts flowing

Please, for the OT, ask the neighbors if they have ring doorbell cameras - they usually catch the street view. In this day and age, someone had to have caught this on video in some way shape or form

Just smile and be agreeable.
As much as people like to think they're the vivacious charming person with no filter, usually that's not the case.
Let the guy embarrass himself. He will later look back and feel silly. Better to not have that memory also filled with the guy treating him like an idiot.
