LINK - Full Story

$100,000 K or half a year’s salary for the majority of OT’ers.

quote:

From epic canyon catapults to personal jetpacks to Lamborghini’s Aventador SVJ, it seems man is locked in a neverending race to find new ways to threaten our own lives for a cheap thrill. While flying a traditional seaplane hardly seems exhilarating enough to get most adrenaline junkies out of bed, the new FlyNano is no ordinary seaplane. The best part? You don’t even need a pilot’s license to fly it.

Pictures and video are included in link above.

Why wouldn't you need a pilot's license?

Single passenger, probably below the weight required to be considered an ultralight aircraft.

Can I land it in a swimming pool? If so, great for commuting!

Once you het about 20 feet of the ground you had better be in something built by an aeronautical engineer that will protect you. The list of dumbasses that have ignored that little bit of knowledge is long and filled with very wealthy individuals that never paused to fully think that through and came to regret it. That looks like a load of fun, right up to the moment it isn’t.

I've been in a paraplane that was drawn and built by a sorrelian.

At 1000ft, I was very conscious of that

If it's light enough and slow enough, the FAA will consider it an aerial vehicle (ultralight) rather than an airplane.

According to FAR Part 103:
Weigh less than 254 lbs empty (lots of fat ultralights out there)
Max 5 gal fuel capacity
Top speed up to 55 knots

Personally, I'd rather earn a Sport Pilot license and buy a Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey (safer, so far, than the Icon A5). It has excellent factory training and support, since it's been in production as a ready to purchase or kit aircraft for a long time. Icon, on the other hand, is big on marketing prowess but not so great at actually delivering aircraft.

Seaplanes are loud AF.

That said, I’ve flown ultralights over the Basin. This looks safer than that was.
