Teach her a valuable life lesson….
You know, for her own good….

When you’re wrapping up your trip to Costa Rica, fire her on the spot and cancel her return flight.

Extra points if you throw away her passport, credit cards, phone & ID first….

She’ll thank you later after she learns humility and some international survival skills.

IMO I think the nanny was correct in her feelings but approached it wrong.

She should have simply said she feels like part of the family and it hurt her feelings a bit that they didn’t book a seat to sit with them. Don’t even mention which class, just ask if in the future if she can sit with them. That way it comes across less like wanting a first class seat and more like wanting to sit with them

The nanny thinks she is an equal member of the family. Putting her a seat class back reminded her she is an employee. She didn't like that. Explain the facts to her and let her decide if she wants to be an employee or unemployed.

I agree with the nanny. Get business class seats for your family and her and be grateful. She sound like a valuable employee.

you can afford a nanny, taking 3+ vacations a year and flying 1st class while doing so, you can afford to fly her 1st class given the excellent care and close relationship she has with the son.

It sounds like the nanny is raising the kid, might as well take care of her.

Def fire her arse and get you a Latina nanny. She’ll keep the kiddos in line and make tacos sometimes. But she also might stab you.

Our old nanny asked if we would bring another nanny on vacation with us, so she could have more free time while on vacation with us.

I would start the process of finding a new nanny, kid will get over it.

That said, I didn't know any families that had full-time nannys growing up, but now have a few friends who have done well in life and have nannys/au pairs, and sometimes travel with them on trips/vacations. The live-in nanny/au pair always sits with the family.

This sounds like one of those clueless rich, but cheap families. Even the way he writes about the nanny, "taking care a few chores around the house" and "she's getting a free vacation" sounds detached from reality.

Also, assuming 1st class to Costa Rica cost $2000 round trip, and C+ cost $1000, spending 7K vs. 8K is probably a drop in the bucket for this family.

My wife and I were in first class with our son, and we booked our nanny a seat in Delta Comfort+. Apparently this was not to her standards.

Just tell you will re-book her flight first class but it will be Delta, on a Boeing 737 Max.

By sending them off to daycare for 10 hours a day?

Our nanny is awesome, wouldn't trade her for anything. Also went with someone a little older with references and not some 20 year old flaky kid who would feel entitled enough to ask for first class seats.
