You don't seem to understand that everyone, everyone is replaceable. There's another guy out there just as smart or smarter than you who's willing to take your job. Get over your inflated view of yourself.

Sure to a small degree, and I agree the OP seems whiny here. But you have an old timers point of view imo. Being replaceable is a union view, that's not the way of today.

Everything is what have you done for me lately, on both sides. You either reward your employees and help them move up at your company, or expect them to leave very quickly to go elsewhere.

Getting a good resume is a lot easier than finding a great employee these days, especially a great employee for average pay.

There's absolutely no reason to be overly loyal today. If your current work didn't get you anything, that's a good sign that your work is going to get you anything but rather how well you kiss your manager's arse.

I have a business owners point of view although I am older. What the OP is thinking of doing would be extremely disruptive to a business and he'd probably be shown the door immediately at most places of business.

I do choose to reward my employees because I believe that I'll get back what I give. However, we're a small business and I'm well aware that the way I do things is not the norm.

Sorry, but in the future, don’t be so loyal. Look out for number1. If you don’t, no one else will.

I see two problems in your situation here.

You sound white and
You sound male.

Go get a gender reassignment and skin darkening and watch the money roll in.

The last half of the Bush Presidency, and all of the Obama Presidency brought a bad climate to be an employee. Pay stagnated, while responsibilities climbed through the roof.

There is a new Sheriff in town and he has changed the economy. Unfortunately, paying people what they are worth has not caught up yet. There are now more jobs than workers and pay will surely begin to reflect it.

OP, don't get an offer and try to leverage it. Get an offer and go to work for the new company that is caught up to the times.

Expect about 35-45% more in pay as well. It is out there.

So you did your job and you think you deserve a raise for it? You have the same attitude as those burger flippers at McDonalds asking for $15/hour

Go figure out how to prove you’re worth more than they’re paying you, then go talk to your boss again

This happened 6 hours ago, I've applied for 8 jobs since then, but should I wait for an offer then use that as leverage? should I have my employees write to him to explain how fricked they would all be if I left?

This is the most Millenial thing I’ve read this week.

Sounds like you went to work in a dysfunctional situation. It didn't get there overnight. But now you want the very people that allowed or created that situation, to recognize that you are somehow making things better

Newsflash: They don't give a crap! The working environment doesn't seem to be high on their list of priorities, otherwise the situation that you were hired to correct, would have never existed

If you arene't happy, you can do two things.

1. Stay and continue to be unhappy
2. Leave

IT people are in demand. It shouldn't be hard to find another job.

Gather your thoughts
Gather the facts
Write everything down

You need to be able to communicate your story over the past year: what you've done, why it brought value, and if you left why everything you've accomplished would fall apart because the company is full of incompetent fools.

How do I get your resume? Wife and I both work in Forbes top 100 companies and more specifically, my spouse is in a highly influential position to place people in skills positions. These are not small companies as our employees exceed 200k at each. Self starters that know how to overcome entrenched hurdles are valuable.

Take the office space mentality and start doing just enough to not get fired.

Don't answer calls on the weekend.
Don't answer emails when you leave work.
Enjoy your 30 min poopie sesh.
Silence your phone at lunch.

No point busting your arse and stressing out going above and beyond if they aren't going to recognize your effort.
