My family (dad and uncles) had a lot of WWII involvement and I have always loved WWII history. I need to get off my butt and make a trip the NOLA and spend the day at the WWII museum.

Asking for real advice and suggestions on the best way to tour the museum.

I have visited their website and there are guided tours to what looks to be just stroll around looking at different displays?

Ticket price does not matter and I prefer to spend the entire day and not have to stay overnight.

Again, advice and suggestions welcomed and TIA.

That's my uncle setting behind the wheel of the Goerings Blue Goose. Cool story on how the 101st captured that car and brought it back to the states for a bond drive.

I haven't been in a long time but you could spend several days there. I really enjoyed the Pacific side of the museum.

I would definitely recommend seeing the Beyond all Boundaries show. It's nice to get off of your feet after a long day of touring the museum.

Just keep you head on a swivel when walking around in the streets outside the museum. Don’t want to get mugged

beyond all boundaries first

go through merchant marine exhibit into road to toyko then do road to berlin. double back to do arsenal to democracy. then go see the planes in the boeing building. new building is the weakest and can be skipped if you're short of time

It is huge I would get there when they open if you plan on trying to see everything in 1 visit.
Ive done both the guided and nomad. The guided tour moves pretty fast so they only hit the highlights. If you want to go more in depth then go w/out a guided.
Now the guides know little details and stories that you will not get without they're knowledge.
It gets packed on the weekends if you can swing in on a weekday.
It really is an inspiring place.

It is fantastic. Like other posters stated, plan on more than one day.

As a Museum member, I'm one to go early in the morning, sit, and watch and listen to all the videos. Check whether they have any speakers when they are visiting, because occasionally a historian will give a speech about a particular battle or group.

I don't like the guided tour as much, since I prefer to sit and listen to the audio clips and watch the accompanying video clips. I'll be in one spot for 20-30 minutes at a time.

You can always pause the tour, go do lunch, and come back in; it's never been a problem for me, as I've spent 4-5 hours inside touring many times. If you plan to listen to every audio clip and experience everything in one day, plan on 6-7 hours of your time.

I was there with a family group last year - spent 2 1/2 days, pre-planned, was able to do some behind the scenes tours as one party in our group had relative who was a curator. The Higgins Hotel is nice and convenient.

As massive as it is, only about 10% of what they have in inventory is on display. But we stayed busy. You’ll be hard pressed to do it all in day - you’ll have to move fast not spend a lot of time lingering and reading everything at each exhibit.

It’s massive in the number of exhibits. We did the guided tour of one of the buildings - War in the Pacific and the later part of the war in the European theatre. The guided tour was good in that the guide provided many anecdotal stories at various exhibits that is not on the placards describing what you are looking at, but it is not necessary.

Do it all in day, get your bearings, and then you can always go back in the future and spend more time at exhibits you like,

Nice and cool photo of your uncle. My dad, and uncles (Navy, Army Air Corps, and Army) were all in the Pacific theater.

We’ve done commerative bricks for them - consider doing that for your Dad & Uncles.

I’ve been three times and still haven’t seen everything. And they seem to always be adding stuff. It’s awesome place to visit.

As others have said, give yourself plenty of time, one full day is an absolute minimum. It’s been since 2021 since I’ve been and I’m dying to go back.

I can't give you advice other than do all of it and take a break in the theaters everything is awesome. I can't say my highlight, other than meeting a WW11 Veteran at the entrance. Humbling!

I’d try to move through it fairly quickly and double back to parts that are most interesting to you.

I’ve gone with friends who wanted to read every word, take everything in one by one, and pause to reflect and share deep thoughts. That turns into a long day.
