Thanks all for the advice and suggestions. Guess I need to start looking over their website and working up a plan on how best to plan the day.
Another picture of the Blue Goose
My father was in the Pacific and was in the 112th Calvary....yep the US still had horse soldiers at the start of the war.

But used AI recently to track his whole trip in WW2. From Normandy beach thru France and Germany. Shows all his honors/medals and tough battles his group participated in
This sounds awesome. Both grandpa's fought in Pacific theater so can you share what you did here?

Very cool picture of your uncle. Those dudes just oozed coolness without even trying.
Go ahead and plan to spend the night so you can get a second day out of it, you won't regret it.
And one thing most people don't realize is the civil war museum is basically across the street from the WWII museum. You can walk to it from the WWII museum so you might as well hit it up as well. Its small so it wouldn't take much time. It has the second most civil war items behind the Gettysburg museum.

I went last month.
The D-Day museum is closed until next year.
Hot tip: Don't go with your girlfriend, wife, S/O. They'll get bored and you won't get time to read/listen to all the interesting artifacts.
Next time I go, I am going alone

If you're asking about how to find out exactly where they traveled that is a fairly easy task. I used the info I knew about his company and plugged into any AI app. I used Gemini for this. I opened the app and I took a picture of the paper that accompanied his medals. It has his name, the awards, date, and explanation of the heroic acts cited. I asked it to follow his whole trek from landing on beach in France throughout Germany. It listed the exact battles he participated in and exactly what he did in those cities. It also gave me videos of his company and smaller groups. Showed mail calls and shelling while they bunkered down in fox holes until it stopped. His specialty was laying communications lines on forward movements between both forces and lookouts for that movement. They described exactly what they did and reminded me of the stories he told me. It was really cool to see that stuff.

100%
If you are going with someone not interested in history it is better to go alone. I’ve had to cut two trips short…

Its organized well into basically what I'll call 3 sections OP. Pacific, Europe, and then extras. Extras are like the merchant marine stuff, etc.
The Pacific and Europe are designed very well in that they are basically one way exhibits, you start at the beginning of the war and travel through the exhibit through the war. Its not just random crap all over you bounce around.
There's a lot of videos and a lot of things to read that just take time. I was actually a little underwhelmed by the amount of actual gear, equipment, etc. But the museum and content (documentaries, videos, etc) is fantastic.
Overall I wouldn't stress about doing it right. As said go with someone that cares as much as you, I went with my wife and kids and had to rush through.
The area around the museum is super safe. There's food options on site, and also some good spots within a block or 3.
