Alcohol is destructive. Huffing gas is destructive. Point is you can't allow the government to decide these things. Because they're always going to side with more control and power.

Before 1900 all those substances were legal, over the counter products, except meth which wasn't invented yet and some newer opiates which are worse than opium and heroin for abusers anyway.

The addiction rate was reportedly 3% back then.

The addiction rate now? Rounded off, roughly 3%.

Like the Op said, anyone who wants anything can get it. The market is all criminals though instead of Wally's and Karen's like the rest of our retailers.

Nixon declared a Civil War pitting Americans against each other when he declared War on Drugs in 1972. It is this event that started the militarization of police and the dissolution of many of our Constitutional Rights. Make no mistake, the USA Formally Declared War against its own citizens, with Congressional Approval, at that time. We've been in a state of Civil War ever since. (Both R's and D's have played their part and increased it so neither can claim a moral high ground.)

Things really ramped up under Reagan with his crime reforms aimed specifically at the Drug War like stiffer sentencing, more police power, Asset Seizure and Forfeiture without crimes being charged, and the sale/giveaway of military surplus.

The national unrest we are witnessing today is the crop America has sewn. Enjoy the harvest as the wheat is separated from the chaff and the chaff is cast aside.

I definitely think black guys get fricked with more for just weed in Louisiana. So you are creating an unnecessary problem jailing a black man for possession.

You think health insurance rates are high now. The idiots that do drugs will be running to the emergency rooms when they OD or have other issues driving up cost and clogging the system. Think things through a bit instead of what is right in front of your nose...

All drugs shouldn't necessarily be legalized, but all drugs should be decriminalized. Drug addiction is a disease, and it should be treated like a disease.

Your premise is built on bullshite. Criminalization of drugs has failed to reduce actual drug use. Per the numbers and statistics increase in drug war spending has been correlated with increases in availability of drugs. Taking a new strategy almost couldn't possibly be any worse than what has been done for decades and almost certainly would not result in an increase in drug use.

They don't even to legalize anything. Just decriminalize the consumption of all drugs. The only people who should be going to prison are the major drug dealers. The public money spent on enforcing drug laws should be used to build drug rehabilitation centers instead. That's what they did in Portugal and they were able to cut the number of addicts in half within a decade.

All drugs? Yes. Absolutely. Full stop. I’m tired of dealing with the goddamn pharmacy dance, even for bullshite like fluoride for my kids. Hell, my wife’s dentist recommended some kind of special toothpaste for her, and it had to be obtained through a pharmacy. I’ve personally been on Ambien and painkillers for a couple decades, and it’s frigging ridiculous the amount of red tape I have to deal with every month. Just make it all legal and GTFO of regulating and monitoring what adults choose to ingest.

the dirty secret of prohibition era USA
Is that alcohol-induced blindness cases skyrocketed because folks continued drinking but were unable to obtain “good” alcohol. So, they substituted other kinds/types of alcohol, and blindness (which can be caused by bad hooch) became a major issue. Funny thing—as soon as Prohibition was over, cases went back down to near zero where they were beforehand.

Legalize marijuana. 100% across the board.

Decriminalize simple possession of other drugs. “Intent to distribute” still remains a felony.

No, but the "war on drugs" has utterly failed. I don't have a solution.

I'm all for responsible adults doing what they want but there has to be some balance and we have to flat out say no to the shite that makes people go insane like meth and PCP.

All saying “no” does is invite cartels, gangs and violence into society. It does nothing to actually keep it out of people’s hands. If people want to destroy their lives with drugs, we can’t stop them. We can stop all of the death and destruction that comes along with the illegal supply chain. I would let companies make it here in the US. It would eliminate the cartels and all the inner city gangs, and it would be a safer product.
