Honestly, in Texas, there is no excuse to have to leave the state anyway.
Houstonite here. Impossible to get into UT, competitive to get into A&M (because of the top 10% rules), and the rest of the schools are 10 hours away. LSU was a great alternative for A&M and 4 hours away.

But pressure from LSU, arguably the city's greatest and most important tenant, could seriously swing some major big dick energy on forcing this shite city to finally do something.
One thing LSU can do immediately, start allocating funds to buy up all the property it can around the campus. Tigerland, dumpy apartments, trap houses. EVERYTHING. Tear them all down tomorrow. Play the PR trumpet about the school growing, needs more dorms, needs land for future expansion, (avoids all the bad press from trying to create distance from ghettos) Then just sit on the land. Create a giant green donut buffer zone. Its the cheapest way to do it. You're in at lot value, no construction costs incurred, bad PR avoided, it helps the city, makes the campus prettier and safter. Just gobble, gobble, gobble. Maybe put a telescope on it or some shite if it means you can use a space grant.

Hell no, I hope my kids love LSU as much as I did. I have a pretty good life and LSU is part of what made that possible.
I however will punch my kid in the face if they want to be a lawyer like me. Do anything else!

To the OP…F@ck your own face.
I’m a proud LSU alumni, 2 degrees.
I’d be proud to have any of my children earn a degree from my alma mater.
LSU ain’t the problem. It’s a fine university.
Now if you want to talk about cleaning up BR, that’s a different discussion.

What are your degrees? Let’s hear this.

So your plan is to somehow force property owners to sell to LSU, kick a few thousand low income, mostly minority, people out of their homes, and then do nothing with the land? Somehow this won't get any negative PR?

Lol. Just opening up more spots for other kids.

When the admin decided to light up Tiger Stadium in George Floyd's high school colors, I made up my mind not to send any of my kids there. There are hundreds of people that die unjust deaths and LSU doesn't recognize them, yet that price of trash gets recognized. frick that.
One is at Tech, the other hasn't decided yet.

This thread is hilarious. You aren’t a real man unless you let your kids go to college in a war zone.

What year did you graduate from LSU? I ask this because overall violent crime in Baton Rouge was way worse in the 80s and 90s than it is now. I said this in a thread similar to this one that was posted a while back and even posted a chart directly from the FBI web site depicting that crime was worse back in those days and people still tried to deny it.

Here’s another one scared of big bad Baton Rouge. Send them somewhere else then. Like LSU needs your kids so bad. Pathetic. You know U Chicago, USC, Yale, and Penn aren’t exactly in nice neighborhoods either. Don’t send your kids there either pussy.

Judging from the graduations I attended this week, the don't send your kids to LSU campaign has already started. Heard Tech a lot more than past years.

Nationally but not in BR. The most violent 3 years in BRs history were 2022, 2021, 2020. 2017 is up there as well.
Point me to a year in the 80s or 90s where BR had anywhere close to 170 murders. Even the per capita numbers (population isn't all that different) weren't even close

You'll be amazed how the world is so much better when you find somewhere functional to reside.
I'm very involved in my grandkids college choices. Out of Louisiana urban areas is the first rule.

Yes. Kid will be going to Ole Miss or Miss St. LSU and BR is a shite hole
Posted on 5/20/23 at 8:50 am to Giantkiller
There has been like a 50% decrease in murders thus far this year. You can say that they don’t care, but things are slowly changing.
Random violence has always spilled over. Was there this much outcry when those grad students WERE killed on campus years ago?
Not excusing things, but let’s deal in reality.
