If I was single with no kids, a $700 note would be easy. That’s what it would have been when I tried to go get a Tundra a while back. I left it there.
I’m married with kids, so my paid off jeep Cherokee will be used until it doesn’t run anymore.

What kind of a car would you need a $700 car note on? Ferrari?
Posted on 11/25/17 at 1:57 pm to kywildcatfanone
50k @ 3% for 5 years is $900 a month
So no not a Ferrari

My limit is $500/month
My old roommate had a $1200/month car not and made $33k a year working at Chase and always complained about having to have a 2nd job

Have two now over that amount.
Had one for less than 265 for two years and that epher broke down on me too much. Put 36-45k miles per year on a vehicle. Want it to be reliable. Wife is at home while I am out of town 100+ nights per year. Want hers to be reliable, too. If I traveled 10 miles to and from work, I would definitely drive a POS that was paid for.

What an idiot
$700 isn’t terrible if you make good money, but we choose to spend differently. My vehicle is paid off and my wife’s is less than $400/mo.

Hahaha! You are kidding, right? A Ferrari would be more like 6500$ per month. A 700$ note is more like a GMC Sierra or a Yukon XL with a pretty decent 10k$ down payment.

Wow. Why was it so high? New Tundras are about $43-48 sticker. A low mileage used one is low $30s

It's not real difficult.
$43K+ttl = $47K.
$7K down, finance $40K.

Leasing is like renting housing, a total loss
That's a categorical stament. Let's say I am 72 years old. Move to Florida. I can rent a place for $800 per month, have a landlord that makes all repairs, or I can "own" that same house for 900$ per month for 30 years, make all of my repairs and have my estate be on the hook for the next 30 years if I die tomorrow.
Alternatively, I am a newly wed living in BR. I can buy a house with a 30 year mortgage and save 50-100$ per month, but I am unsure of when I will get a better job. Better job arises in Austin TX, two months after I take PolyPusher's advice to prevent the "total loss". Now I cannot get rid of my BR home, which means I cannot qualify for my forever home in Austin because I am still paying a mortgage.
There are lots of good reasons to rent. There are also lots of good reasons to own. Nothing is as simple as you suggest.
My company will pay for my car lease, but will not pay any portion if I decide to buy my own vehicle. Is that a "total loss" situation, too?

No car notes in three years.
Bike note is 260.

True, i was speaking more of my personal situation rather than everybody else. I can definitely see the advantages on renting for a short term knowing you’ll have to move or elderly like you suggested. Leasing a vehicle seems like a total waste to me. I understand why salesman do it but not for the normal everyday consumer, everybody’s situation is different i suppose

700 isn't horrible. Mine was 653 a month and it wasn't bad. I'm not OT rich either

Yeah renting sucks, but sometimes it does make sense.
We’ve been renting the last four years, because we aren’t sure how long we’re going to live where we do. But I’m getting close to needing to make a decision one way or another because I don’t want to rent much longer.

A Tundra? Yeah no.
Used Tundras with low mileage aren't much cheaper than brand new.
The prices you listed look like you are comparing the 4WD, Crew Max to the base model 2WD Double Cab

Some of you guys have a $700 payment per month for a domestic vehicle? Are you serious?

I know someone who started their first full time job about 2 months ago after graduating from college. Their car note is in the $700 range. Kind of dumb.
