I could pay 700 a month for a car but refuse to. Cars arent important to me. Just a hunk a metal to get me around. I am very happy with with my 12 year old Toyota Camry. If I had to get a new car tomorrow I would probably get a Civic or Corolla for about 18K-20K
I am not married and don't have kids. I enjoy living simple. Allows me to save over 50% of my take home pay (not an OT Baller, make 75k)

Car note currently is $1000. That’s what happens when you finance 36k for 36 months. Nbd. Buy something cheaper if you’re a poor.
You bought a $36K vehicle and have the nerve to call someone poor?

I buy them used and pay cash. Period. You've been out of work once, you learn.

Buy low, sell high.
Actually, do a simple 3-fund portfolio and let it ride. That will earn you more interest than what you'll pay on a car note nowadays.

A low mileage used one is low $30s
A Tundra? Yeah no.
Used Tundras with low mileage aren't much cheaper than brand new.
They’re all over the place here in houston. Low $30s for low mileage used ones. Not the platinum or 1784 whatever model but still the 5.7 crew cab.
In June 2017 I bought a 2016 crew cab Tundra for $34k, it had 10k Miles.

No, because I make over $600 a day when I'm working.

My grandpa's gf just died and left him a 2010 chevy Malibu which he gave to me. So my options are 1: drive around in a free car. 2: spend 750 a month on a new car. Option 1 all day

I saw a commercial today for a $700/month lease offer.
Whole lotta nope on that
So if it was a commercial for a Bentley you would say nope?
$700/month could be a great deal, just depends on the car.

Car notes are for poor people

Now if you could just figure out how to not pay those pesky taxes too.

No, no. He actually bought a $100k car and put down $64k therefore only financing $36k for 3 years.

Me too. I financed a diesel truck, antique vehicle, and a Land Rover about 10 years ago. When my payments got up to 633 on the Land Rover I finally realized that I was paying a lot of money for a status symbol.
I sold the Land Rover, bought a 5 year old truck with low miles and payed it off quickly. I still have that truck as an extra vehicle. I’ve financed 3 vehicles since and paid them off within 1.5 years. Having no payment is awesome and a huge peace of mind. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is the type of thread that makes the OT so magical. Everyone here is so rich. I fit right in.

I have two over that now, so no. But both the wife and get allowances so we pay very little out of our actual salaries.
Posted on 11/25/17 at 11:42 pm to lsu xman
Anyone who's paying that for a depreciating asset is retarded.

Interesting. Not even 2 years ago I was looking for a crew max 4WD Tundra and anything 2 years or newer with less than 25k miles was within a couple thousand of a new one.
Which is why I just bought a new one for $43k
Posted on 11/26/17 at 2:00 am to lsu xman
No, because I wouldn't get a payment I couldn't afford.
