I noticed you picked pictures where it’s nice and sunny when in reality it looks like this most of the time in Seattle..
That's only October to March. April to September, it's ridiculously perfect.

I’m more left leaning than most of you here but this area is pretty toxic politically. I don’t try to make it my life but for some of you where your entire identity is being a baw, wouldn’t like it here.
Also east side of Seattle everyone makes good tech money so even if your house income was 500k that isn’t really abnormal.

Vashon Island is cool. Mayberry meets Burning Man.

But to live comfortably in Seattle would require hundreds of millions in net worth.
Gimminey Crickets! A $500,000 annual salary would set you up VERY nicely in Seattle.

Forget about trying to make friends here. Almost half of Pacific Northwest residents don’t even want to talk briefly to people they don’t already know.
Stop being fat, ugly, poor, and boring

Meh what’s very nicely? Seattle itself kinda sucks cuz crime and bad schools. Only a couple neighborhoods are decent but best are in east side BKR which is $$$$ for houses

It's not so much about personal politics affecting your life, it's more about the politics of the people there affecting your life.
As you said, it's toxic. And they shove it in your face 24/7 there. You can't just live your life. You have to live THEIR life.
I was at my nephew's lacrosse game there at the tail end of covid. Wife and I didn't wear masks, outside mind you. We were accosted multiple times about it from people we didn't even know. Picture the most entitled, nasty, white progressive Karens you can think of, and that's how it was.

quote:Eh. I think it's the most absurdly political zip code in the state. Pre-covid, it was in the news a lot because they were starting to get things like rabies (ETA: measles, not rabies) again due to the anti-vaxx stance of the population. During covid, they switched to the single most vaccinated zip code in the state. That's as pure a litmus test of political purity as I've ever seen.
Vashon Island is cool.

For that house, assuming it's on Mercer Island? 3M is still way too low.

Absolutely would choose suburban Seattle over suburban Texas.
There is so much to do up there, and can be done year round. Yeah it rains a lot but it’s better than months of blistering heat.

It’s no different than the south, I lived in both and if you go anywhere south Texas, they will love to tell you about the election robbery.
It’s the super political people ruining it for normal folks

Worked with a girl from Vashon Island once, she lasted 6 months.
Never hesitated to tell you she was captain of the UW womens crew team and from Vashon Island.

Eh, I disagree. Sure, you'll find the super political right wingers in the South, but they don't sit there and demand you live your life as they see fit.
That's purely a progressive thing these days. The left has become everything the religious right was 30 years ago.

I think you’re biased based on what you believe so you don’t notice these things as much. It’s fine, I don’t think we can talk about this objectively

Nah. This is drastically overstated. The "bad" months are Nov - Feb. It's dark everywhere in the country then, so who gives a shite? The Chicago weather is materially worse than PNW, IMO.
Even in the bad months the weather isn't as bad as people make it out to be. 3 days out of the last 7 have been very nice here (including yesterday).
You also don't need 500K to overcome the cost of living differences.

You posted something that was completely incorrect and got called out for it. You’re disappointing your family Jason.

I’ve lived in the PNW. And yes, it is like that most of the time.
