Only invited two friends. Mainly because one of the friends planned everything for us.
Tried planning a somewhat destination wedding twice and there was a lot of moaning and complaining from family.
We said frick it, no one gets invited. Sent everyone an email on the trip back. Don't regret it. Wouldn't care if my daughter did it the same way.

Yep. Considering doing just that when the time comes.

How old and is this their first marriage?
The older you get, or more marriages you have, the less of a shite you give about having people there.

The drawback is trying to bring your wedding dress through customs. It is decidedly unwieldy to say the least.
Got to see a number of brides have to lug that shite with them on the way into Jamaica on our honeymoon.

No need for a big wedding dress
Just a dress. That would be perfect.

Courthouse marriage is the way to go baw.
Might as well get married in the same place you’ll get divorced

No but I’m sure it happens often

Sounds awesome. That's what I did on my second. No drama, no fuss, just as married.

I really wanted to just take an extended trip somewhere and do a private ceremony. But didn't for this reason. Would have broke our parents hearts.

Yes.
My SO and I don’t want the burden and attention. We’ve also both been married before and are fairly older. Have already discussed and when we’re ready, we’ll just go to the justice of the peace.

Not even parents? Just found out a buddy of mine is doing this and nobody, not even their parents are invited.
On one hand I understand it since they're not ones to like attention but on the other hand I still say invite at least the parents. I only had immediate family at my wedding. My first reaction to reading your post was if the couple is paying for it then it's their prerogative. Then I thought about how I would feel if my kids did that to me. It would really hurt. I would go to the ends of the earth to be at their weddings.

They got married in Vegas, then had a small reception for family friends back home a little later. Considering the costs of big weddings and receptions where the couple has to feed a bunch of people they barely know, I don't blame them
THIS is the way to do it.

I wanted to elope with nobody there. My husband surprised me with our wedding, and had immediate family there. In hindsight, I’m glad we had family there.

Got married in Vegas, in our room, with the Bellagio fountains in the window, witnesses were the preacher and the photographer. Had a get together at the house with our families when we got back. I highly recommend it. So stress free and was able to enjoy the whole experience. Spent maybe 2 grand total. Wedding package was like $700 and they took care of everything. We mostly did it because it was both our second marriage and we were in our mid 30s, but damn was that a great decision.

everyone is gonna rush to say big weddings are bullshite, and yes they are overpriced, but mine was honestly the best day of my life
My reception was still the best party I've ever been to.
It was a massive waste of time and money by all parties involved regardless of the "success" of the marriage. I would have much preferred to save her family's money and eloped, but she got what she wanted. At the end of the day, the wedding is about the bride, and it should be the bride's family that is paying for it. If she wants a big wedding and her or her parents are willing to foot the majority of the bill, go for it.
In most circumstances, it's a waste of money, but there are worst wastes of money out there.
