Would you get married and not invite anyone?

Not even parents? Just found out a buddy of mine is doing this and nobody, not even their parents are invited.

On one hand I understand it since they're not ones to like attention but on the other hand I still say invite at least the parents. Those parents will never see their children get married and as a parent, I can say that's one of the biggest milestones you look forward to seeing your children accomplish. I'd be a little pissed if I were their parents.

Depends on if they are going to cost me or give to me.

I’d be ecstatic. Fricking expensive formality that 50% of the time doesn’t work out. Sign the paperwork and get it over with.

There might be a little more to the story for them if the parents aren’t invited, assuming it isn’t just a quick wedding chapel/courthouse doing it.

So they're just going to the courthouse?

They have parental consent. Hell, they have the consent of everyone who knows them. Both are extremely stand-up people with great jobs, very intelligent, and extremely generous. Great people. I just can't figure out why they don't want their parents there. They've actually told them they don't want them there. And it's not like they have a bad relationship with them; they have a fantastic relationship with the parents.

I'm in the midst of planning a wedding that I'm paying for. If it were up to me I wouldn't invite a goddamned person.

everyone is gonna rush to say big weddings are bullshite, and yes they are overpriced, but mine was honestly the best day of my life. My entire extended family flew in for an amazing party to celebrate me and my wife. I'm not saying you have to spend bank, but sharing that moment with loved ones is a pretty amazing feeling that I wouldn't have traded for anything

One of my best friends did this. They got married in Vegas, then had a small reception for family friends back home a little later. Considering the costs of big weddings and receptions where the couple has to feed a bunch of people they barely know, I don't blame them. They had been living in sin anyway.

Sometimes people don't get along with their parents and they may not want to have them there. And some people do not understand this logic because their families are great but not everyone's are. Best not to butt into a family issue as there are always sides to it you may not understand.

Then that’s their problem, not the bride and groom’s problem.

IMO a wedding isn’t about anyone but the two people getting married.. My wife and i eloped.. we avoided all the pressure, expectations and BS that normally goes into a wedding, AND we saved all that money to use as a down payment on a house.. The wedding industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it’s out of control.. and in my experience, the size and expense of a wedding has zero correlation to the success of a marriage.

I don't know. All they've said is they're getting married, told us the date, and then told us nobody is invited. Huge shocker to all of us.

I did. We just went down to the courthouse. It wasn't meant as a slight against anyone, just worked out that way.

I mean eloping or going to the courthouse isn't that unusual.

It's not the norm, but not crazy or anything.

My parents eloped, Justice of the Peace, no ceremony thing. Clerk at the courthouse (not Clerk of Court though) witnessed on paper so 4 people in the room total. They were together till the day Dad died last year too and never once regretted eloping.
