Got married in Vegas, in our room, with the Bellagio fountains in the window, witnesses were the preacher and the photographer. Had a get together at the house with our families when we got back. I highly recommend it. So stress free and was able to enjoy the whole experience. Spent maybe 2 grand total. Wedding package was like $700 and they took care of everything. We mostly did it because it was both our second marriage and we were in our mid 30s, but damn was that a great decision.
Sounds kind of like us except we didn't do it at the hotel. I don't regret it one bit.

I would have much preferred to save her family's money and eloped, but she got what she wanted. At the end of the day, the wedding is about the bride, and it should be the bride's family that is paying for it. If she wants a big wedding and her or her parents are willing to foot the majority of the bill, go for it.
My wife's parents don't have a lot of money so they wouldn't have been in a position to pay for it. My dad offered but I didn't feel comfortable. Like the previous poster, we spent a few K in Vegas. Cool thing is my dad gave us the money he was willing to spend on a house down payment when we got back as a wedding gift.

Weddings are so overrated. Anxiety, bitchiness, pettiness, time and money involved
Funerals are as well

I agree. I had no desire to have a big wedding.
