Exactly. It’s not the three hours in the plane. Getting to the airport and dealing with all the people that are freaking out because they never fly. Then waiting on bags, delays, rental car etc. NOPE

Growing up, we took 3-4 week driving vacation all over the country and Canada from our home on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Pulled a pop-up camper.

Now that my wife and I are retired, we hope to do some long driving vacations with our square-drop camper.

Many of my long road trips have been done on motorcycles and it is nothing for me to run 750 miles a day before grabbing a bite to eat and bedding down.

One trip to the Rocky Mountains found me averaging 600 miles a day for 6 days and most of those miles were on State Roads and not the interstate. I really hate interstate riding but sometimes I've got to bite the bullet and run them.

The wife and I have a cabin rented in the Smoky Mountains for early November and I'll make that drive in one go both there and back.

I don't enjoy roast trips at all. Any thing about them.

one to Mount Rushmore visiting all the tourist stops along the way. We rarely fly anywhere unless it's absolutely necessary

Tell me more about this one. Considering it this summer.

I always drive if time permits. Last year did a loop around Colorado and back (NW LA). NY, Wisconsin, Virginia, San Diego, CT....drove them all and more.

We did a chunk of driving the first day through places like Iowa, but we slowed down once we hit South Dakota. We hit places like the Corn Palace and Wall Drug. We stayed a couple of days in the Wall area and hit the Badlands and the Minuteman Middle site (very cool...had to get their early because they only allow a certain amount of people in per day. Going 20 stories underground was awesome).

We then drove to Rapid City and made that our base. We visited Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave, Sturgis, and Tombstone. We also drove to Wyoming to see the Devil's Tower...one of my bucket list items since the move Close Encounters of the Third Kind was shot in Mobile.

All in all, it was one of my family's favorite trips. When we did the Grand Canyon, we stayed at a lot of the vintage Route 66 motels. My daughter's were little so we watched the movie Cars before going and then picked out places that inspired the movie. They loved that! They were both special trips.

We like to drive from wisky to Florida in the spring for a few weeks. (Cabin fever)

I’d rather drive two days with the family stopping here and there than flying.

Not that driving long distances is not stressful, but flying with a family seems 10x more stressful

I love road trips. Usually like to find several places to stop for a few days each on the way to where I'm going. There's so many interesting things to get out and see.

I am done with flying unless planning to visit a place I can't drive to. SO and I are contemplating the purchase of an Airstream.

I took the whole tribe cross country back in the early 80s. Best week of my life.

Longest trip was for 4 months from Corpus Christi to Pruhoe Bay in a class A rv. 15000 miles round trip. Above the arctic circle was unique. No sunsets. camp on stream beds.

Moab Utah is a favorite for off roading

I've had a few, some with the family. But the really long one was with my brother-in-law on the trip from hell on motorcycles. I'm thinking 13 states up through South Dakota, then swinging west into Spokane. It was a comedy of mishaps and errors.

When the kids were little, we couldn't afford much of a vacation, so we pulled my parents' camping trailer through 3 or 4 states, staying in a lot of state parks.

It was like National Lampoon's Vacation before it came out.
