Would Alexander The Great and Gengis Khan pay cash or finance their cavalry?

That's what I'd like to know. Wonder what the interest rate spread was at that time for borrowing vs. investing.

They would save fuel by going 100 MPH.

Um.. brother, they pillaged and took horses after they would raid settlements
They paid in Iron and Blood

I've seen better conquerors battling through the quad on a Tuesday.

Pretty sure Genghis had enough children that he could just give his babies away as payment.

they would finance, then find you and renegotiate once their army was intact

So if I understand you correctly, they wouldn't use their own assets, but other people's assets?

Even the Lannisters need the backing of the Iron Bank.

yes, but their amortization schedule for use of those assets didn't impact their ebitda as much as one would think.

I get it's a joke thread, but I don't think Genghis had anything but cavalry

TD needs an option that would allow us to down vote threads without even opening them.

Soilders paid via plunder.

Pay the Iron Price, never the Gold Price.

It's more about getting a monthly payment they are happy with. The actual interest rate and price is irrelevant.

Genghis’ warriors were literally wearing mouse skins at the start of the war, and fine silks and gold by the end of it. Save for horses, they really had nothing to trade with. It was iron and blood.

Well, it's kinda complicated.
Conquerors of old paid their men through plunder, but they had to raise funds just to get started. Assembling and outfitting an army takes time, and if you're just getting set up there isn't much plunder to be had just yet.
Often what they did is rely on the tax base they did have, plus they sold lotteries. They spread alarming news about foreign hordes that needed to be defeated before they got too dangerous. And of course packaged it all as a grand adventure.
Pretty much like today.
