I would have said "Manolo took all my Yayo and fricked my sister and I'm looking to kill his slimy arse."
They probably would have gave him some blow and a ride.
I lived on Acadian in BR (Ogden Terrace) and some grimy black dude came up on me one day and said. "I just got out of jail, I've been walking can I get a ride to my Mom's {in Gadere}( a nice drive).
I said yeah. I took him too.
I'm a softy for helping people in trouble. His mom gave me a $20 and a coke and a hug.

Back then Delmont Village was a busy strip mall.
I saw my first movie at the Robert E Lee Movie Theater. North Baton Rouge was a growing area back then.

One thing I always found mind boggling is the lack of Gangster disciple, Folk, Cripps & bloods in Baton Rouge. Little rock is roughly the same size city as BR and had the aforementioned gangs infiltrate their city. Why none in BR?

Crips and Bloods are blanket gangs. Meaning you can be a blood but also a East side Trinity boy and be a crip but also a KC hard hitter.
Crips and bloods are what some will affiliate with, especially in jails. Though the majority of gangs even in LA are neighborhood based.
There are some of the nationals in BR, but most now choose to stay unaffiliated. Though you will still see the colors.

Almost no Gus Young love. I can promise you that if it's shady, dirty, dangerous, it rolls through Eden Park.

Interesting. I've yet to see any colors or logos for the national gangs. I also wonder with a growing Latin population if the ms-13, sureños and Latin kings will ever come to BR?

Know someone who got a DWI and spent a night and day in jail, said they were all grouped up by neighborhood. That's the first thing one of the guys asked him, where he was from.

Im originally from Chicago (the birthplace of the folk nation, GD's, Latin Kings, Vice Lords and many others) and I was amazed by the lack of their presence as well.
I can only figure that no "Hoover" or L.A. Moe types with rank backing and charisma have come down to Louisiana, like in Little Rock and many other places, either because there's nothing here that they want or need, or if they have the locals have resisted.

The ones in North BR are the worst. The ones around LSU are just more visible.
Your tax dollars pay their rent and food. Such a broken system.

Delmont Village was a thriving shopping center back then.
We used to go to the Picadilly there up until the mid '80s.
One of the things that strikes me most whenever I go to Tony's Seafood (which is quite often) is how regardless of the fact that it's in a pretty rough part of town you see every strata of Baton Rouge society there, from the richest white folks to the poorest ghetto dweller. Call it Baton Rouge's very own melting pot.

I've actually run across GDs in bum frick LA and MS, and into some Blood/Crips in Denham Springs and Zachary.

All the people in this thread who said the bottoms or gardere as the worst ghettos have never seen the worst ghettos in br

The entire fricking parish. No matter where you live in EBRP, a shithole is just right around the corner.
How about minority (are they a minority in EBRP any more?) schools in the middle of nice neighborhoods. How about section 8 housing right next to what used to be expensive neighborhoods?
Monterrey and Sherwood Forest just called and they want their home values and quality of life back.
"It's like that everywhere, isn't it?" says the typical BR resident.
"No" say the people who've moved away.
