Working on a cruise ship is probably a miserable job

I’m on a Mediterranean cruise right now and asked one of the waiters about the work schedule. He said they work 7 months on and 2 months off. During the 7 months, they work every day. His shift is early morning and afternoon / evenings with a couple of hours off during lunch. It probably isn’t as bad dealing with the older crowd on this cruise as it is when this ship heads to the Caribbean on its rotation. I haven’t seen a single drunk person, definitely no fights among the demographic. The bartenders are nonstop all day. I’m sure the cooks and dishwashers have it as bad as the bartenders. I wonder what the turnover is.

Yes I have it on good authority from friends of mine that work/have worked on cruise ships that it does indeed become a thankless grind after a while.. though in fairness, id say most jobs in life eventually get old.. at least on a cruise ship you'd be able to travel a bit while being miserable .. To me, life is in large part about choosing your own personal type of misery .. not to get all philosophical, but Jerry Seinfeld has a quote:

I don’t think so, there is probably a 3 to 1 ratio of male to female staff and they work 12 to 15 hour shifts per day. I’d say just the opposite.
