That said, my boy in Denver got a Judge from his girlfriend because they're always van camping and skiing.

The judge may help against a crazed, methed up homeless intruder. Good luck trying to use that against an attacking animal. This was the first fatal lion attack in CO since 1999. And fatal black bear attacks are similarly rare (like 4 in the past 60 years).

That heavy-assed gun is more likely to go off on the ski lift or van and shoot a person than it is to protect them against a wild non-human animal.

Eta: to the downvoting dumbasses of the OT—I’ve been stalked by a mountain lion (Glaicer ranger hazed it and told our group about it and the stalking), and i have run/hiked up on a large grizzly on the trail. Same re large black bear including with a jogging stroller and on my back deck. Been dangerously close to a cow moose with calf (that actually made me almost shite my pants—more so than the carnivores).

Had any of those animals wanted to kill me (and had the mountain lion been successful in its stalking), no weapon would have done shite. Maybe bear spray with one of my grizzly encounters but she ran away before I could find out.

I’m pro-gun. But carrying a judge in a camper van for skiing in CO has almost zero protective effect against wildlife.

Never go hiking in Colorado alone. Also...make sure someone in your party is carrying. When I lived in Colorado and went hiking, there was always more than one of us and someone who had a firearm on him.

That area east of Estes Park is pretty heavy mountain lion area. With protected areas nearby, the prey population is high.

I've been hiking in that area for years, quite a bit of it solo. I've seen two mountain lions. Both were pretty far away, and ran away when I yelled. Most attacks happen when people are running away, or riding a bike and the chase instinct kicks in.

The lion population in Colorado has exponentially exploded in the last 2 decades,
Let me guess…animal rights groups got regulations passed that made lion hunting far more restricted and difficult, so the population boomed due to a big drop in hunting pressure?

Nah, you're pretty much conscious of being eaten alive until you finally bleed out from whatever organs the animal happens to be munching on.

Evidently, it’s highly restricted and regulated, I’d imagine this can’t help tag requests…

Meat Utilization: It's illegal to kill a lion without properly preparing the meat for human consumption (excluding organs).

From personal experience and spending roughly 6 weeks out of the year in Co., they’re definitely thriving and doing what apex predators do. All I know is if you want to see and experience a mountain lion in its natural environment hit up Red Cliff, Co. on Hwy. 24 from the backside of Vail to Leadville, they’re everywhere, and you used to be fortunate to even get a glimpse of one, maybe once or twice in a lifetime.

Mountain lions rarely attack humans. Wonder what happened here.

If it’s going to attack it’ll be a child or a woman alone most of the time. They can take down huge animals but are also opportunistic.

Mountain lions are majestic, badass creatures
Up to 200+lbs, can jump 30 feet & have 4 inch razor claws.
Apex predators for sure.

As a hunter I don't trust them at all. Don't get between a tall 800 pound mom who might stomp you to death and her calf. Bulls can be twice that size, mostly act chill. Don't trust them either.

Numerous in and around Banff, Canada and the National Park towards Jasper. Within the city and on the golf courses, the tourists who think they're cute, getting close for a photo, scare the shite out of me. Locals know better and call the cops/wildlife control.

Beautiful part of the Rockies.

Was that what she was? If so, score one for nature, but those types don't typically wander too far from home and seem allergic to nature.
