Woman arrested on animal cruelty after shooting her llama

Deputies say that Bourgeois then went into her home and retrieved her gun, returning to the pasture and shooting the llama three times.
Deputies say that upon arriving at the home, they observed the injured llama limping in the pasture. Animal control was contacted and took possession of the injured animal. X-rays taken by animal control showed three bullets located in the llama. The animal was taken to LSU Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge for evaluation.

if she would have shot it in the head would she have still faced charges? I'm wondering if they only decided to arrest her because she shot the thing 3 times and it was still walking around with bullets in it. She let it suffer without reason.
She should have finished the job. I'm all for being able to humanely put down your problem livestock. Doesn't sound like this was the case. A felony is a bit much, however.

Because like most rational people she would likely have never thought that shooting a llama (which was her legal property) would be a criminal offense.

You don't have legal right to cause cruel harm to your livestock/pets. Puppy mills get shut down all the time and charged with crimes. Shoot it in the head and put it down. Sounds like she just injured it.

The moral of the story is that when your Llama attacks you, you should use a large caliber center fired rifle and practice proper shot placement at the animals vital organs to quickly, ethnically and effectively dispatch said Llama.

It was cruel to leave it injured but for the life of me I don’t see why shooting it would be cruelty when we can legally hunt all sorts of animals.
I was attacked by a pit bull once while working that had gotten loose from someone’s home. I kicked it in the head and it retreated enough for me to get to my truck and get my pistol. Shot it between the eyes. Does that mean I should have been charged? Of course the cops never knew because I took it and tossed it off a bridge

This story reminds me of a story I heard about my grandmother. This happened before I was born when my older brother was a baby. My grandmother had a poodle. And this poodle loved to lay on the ottoman. But our mother had laid my brother down on the ottman and apparently the poodle didn’t like this so it jumped up and tried biting my brother. When my grandmother saw this she picked up the poodle, handed it to her son (my uncle) and calmly told him to take the dog outside and shoot it. She’d had the poodle for years and from what I was told just loved this dog. But when she saw it try to bite her infant grandchild she didn’t even blink an eye before she ordered its execution. Different time and generation then I suppose.

So you think anyone can shoot their dog? There were alot of people pissed about the guy from minden shooting his hunting dog.
