I was being generous because of their Great White Hope.

Yeah, tv revenues are increasing about $120 million per year and ticket sales and merch are up huge. And most of the teams are profitable, the league office just takes on a lot of costs.

I have used this as a search a time or on some web pages. Not proud or disappointed.

Can we move this thread to book or soccer board?

Kamala needs to get on this.
She probably would tack some wnba money into a Ukraine spending bill. Half million for wnba half a billion for Ukraine.

What's the source for this? The WNBA lost $40 million.

A lockout could save the NBA millions

All of that because of two women that started the current hype of the WNBA while they were still playing in college. The true cash cow got treated like shite all season by gate keeping women that very few people cared about two years ago.

The league should just lockout indefinitely. No one cares for women’s basketball. Clark can join the Harlem Globetrotters and be fine.

If it’s any consolation, they were forecasted to lose $50M

The WNBA brass need to consider the unintended consequences. Whatever fills that Summer TV void will be better than the WNBA and the few fans they have will not return.
Hope they bring back those lumberjack competitions ESPN used to have 35 years ago on Saturday.

WNBA owes nba owners so much money they’ll never be profitable; notice I said nba owners not the nba
Owners are considered investors; they’ll recoup their money first

Who would care?
Very few people.
That’s why they don’t make much money.

Tonight was TNT's first night (with Shaq & Barkley). And they had that Hill woman on set talking about some bullshite. I caught the end of her. Shaq asked her does she think if women could dunk would it bring in more fans. The Barkley said "One thing I am sure we can agree on. The refs suck in both leagues".
I was just laughing thinking "she might be talking to the wrong age demographics if she is looking for people on a panel to agree with her".
Angel Reese, Caitlyn Clark... They are not living they way they are because of JUST the WNBA. They have deals with multiple companies. Im sure it pisses all the other players off, but its not their fault they had those deals in college, due to NIL. WNBA is paying them what they can (or was given a budget that they can pay them). Go to another career if you dont like the pay.

I assume at least some franchises in the WNBA are profitable now and more will be with the new deals since you've started to hear NBA owners in the papers and sports radio start talking about their payback shares.
Not sure how much it matters since my impression has always been that owning sports teams is more about pride + tax loopholes than profitable investments.

The wnba league lost 40 million because they owe 40% of revenue to the nba and 20% to outside investors.
If the league didn't owe 60% of the money they brought in they would've made profit this year.
That's the cost of relying on others to bankroll your startup/expansions
