Well, regardless of any winter weather, it is a Friday in Baton Rouge.

Radar across houston is bright yellow and orange. I ran outside to see if that means sleet... the verdict is no. Just big fat numerous cold raindrops. FML.

That's very reasonable. There are mountains there.

I wasn't asking if it's reasonable that it snows in Mexico. I was asking if a foot was reasonable there. Seems like a lot, mountains or not.

The reinforcing shot of Arctic air hasn't reached you yet. Check back around dusk.

Don’t lie baw. If snow seemed reasonable to you you would have emphasized “12-13 INCHES” but instead you emphasized “MEXICO” like this would be the first snowfall in Mexico since the ice age.

It’s OK you didn’t pay attention during geography class and have never seen a map or globe.

You believe whatever it takes to make you feel warm and e-fuzzy.

I still want to know if a foot of snow is normal or unusual that far South.

So it begins. I predict the big three will all announce by noon, with EBR going first.

Southeastern LA Univ. was 34-35 degrees when this happened in 2008. There absolutely can be impacts on the roads.

I love you for this
I drove a mile to campus, and that's all I wanted. My roomate drove from BR and said there were 30-40 cars that ran off the road in a 25 mile stretch of Interstate.

That was a magical day. Pine branches snapping like twigs.
We walked back to campus to soak it all in.

How the frick do you not know by now after our responses to your stupid question? There are mountains there -- yes, a foot of snow in the mountains is normal. A foot of snow in the mountains of Hawaii is normal, too. Read a book now and then, won't ya?

The 12z NAM is probably over doing it. However, trends continue to be in favor of snow for S. Louisiana, esp. the Florida Parishes.

Can someone explain reinforcing shot of cold air? It always seems to happen, and I welcome it every time, but WHY does it happen?

Looks pretty commonplace in the Chihuahua mountains, judging by this wiki picture:

Admittedly I would never picture a winter wonderland south of the Rio Grande
