I don't really know JP's take on this
But I've never heard JP make a statement indicating that personal truths become absolute truths in reality. I could definitely see him claiming that lies which are portrayed as truths become truths in practice due to adoption by enough people.
But if he claims that renders them genuinely true, I would disagree. I'm a positivist, not sure about him.

Sure. No argument here.

And as mentioned, some of that falls back on the majority of sensible people in this country who are letting the mob dictate such things to media/corporations/etc.
this has always been my issue
I don't understand why corporations placate to this very small % of the population

Yes. The left has won the culture war.

But some fraction of those people are threatening to destroy not only you, but the people who are related to you, those who do business with you, etc. all over a relatively neutral position statement.

It's like settling out of court. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

I assume the logic is that regular customers generally don't care either way and if they can score a few virtue points, then that's a plus
which is fine on a case by case basis, I guess, but eventually all that placating has to add up to real burdens, no?

You say "All Lives Matter"
People object, find out you work for Coca-Cola
"Coke must fire this racist, or else!"
Coke, fearing protestors and rioters (who have a recent record of arson, murder, assault, etc.) bends to the will of the mob.
Person who said "All Lives Matter" is universally declared a racist, he's fired from Coke, his livelihood is destroyed and he's untouchable for other work because even Coke fired him because he's a racist.

Oh, absolutely. When you look at it from a macro level, it causes huge issues of forced compliance. The problem is very few people want to stand up to it. CFA was the only one who had the balls to stand up for themselves.

Being a republican is already synonymous with being a racist now

Consumers learn of this statement, and tell Coke, "Fire this person or we won't buy Coke anymore."
Coke, being a free, capitalist business, exercises their right to fire an employee.
Other businesses exercise their own rights to decide whether or not to hire this person.
Again, what's the alternative?

Usually it seems to be more of a Coke employee said something on Twitter and than is doxed and life quickly ruined by the cancel culture. Usually those screaming to have the employee fired are a small group not some giant "movement".

I think the issue here is asking how has society gotten to the point where you cannot separate a good product from the political views of the company or its employees.

This is Cultural Fascism and the Left, the Party of choice, are TOTALLY fine with it.

I consider it already too far.
But that is irrelevant, as my views do not represent the segment of the population pushing so fervently for these types of actions.

A society that rejects social blackmail for innocuous statements?
I'm not claiming the underlying concept is wrong, in fact the concept is probably both the source of the problem and the solution. I'm saying the checks and balances on social tyranny are gone at the moment.
The institutions we rely on to bolster rational behavior are actively working against the interests of peace and the majority. Hence, the need to reach some critical mass of vocal public consensus to end the destruction.
Your position of course raises the question of what happens when/if the majority accepts untruthful things as true and tyrannical behavior becomes the endorsed position of a majority - and the answer is "the rest of us GTFO" I suppose.

quote:I really don't think this is anything new. There are certain businesses I chose not to patronize years ago because of the actions of their owners. There are so many scummy large corporations that it's impossible to avoid them all, but I feel pretty good about my decision not to spend my money at certain local businesses based on their unethical/borderline illegal past actions.
I think the issue here is asking how has society gotten to the point where you cannot separate a good product from the political views of the company or its employees.
I'm willing to bet that almost everyone has a breaking point of saying "I'll never spend money at that business again." After all how many people on this site are already vowing to never watch another NFL game?

The same reason most corporations settle out of court, even when they know the lawsuit is complete and utter bullshite.

It's the religious right gone commie, on steroids. The powerful have convinced the masses that having alternative viewpoints is morally wrong.
If you want to see the difference between liberals and progressives, Ths is a defining point. "Deplorables."
