If you're young and healthy that may be the irresponsible thing to do. I almost thing it's your duty to get it in that case.

If they are responsible enough to get tested & then quarantine, sure
Posted on 6/28/20 at 11:16 am to Lester Earl
And when that still doesn’t prevent the virus from being everywhere?

Then you can cry some more that everything has to close again

No. Can’t keep everybody at home but the people who blatantly and vehemently refuse to take any basic precautions, like social distancing and refusal to under no circumstances put on a mask, are driving this upswing in cases because they aren’t high risk. They piss me off because they can’t be inconvenienced a little to help the next guy. Selfish pricks.

A vaccine is the best way forward. Herd immunity is a good thing over time but at what expense? How many at risk people is it ok to kill to reach the magic level? Do you know what percent of the population that is? Had you ever heard the term ‘herd immunity’ before this happed? I’ll bet 99% of the people throwing the term around hadn’t.

We need to open the dorms back up and stick the young people in there where they only infect each other.
Posted on 6/28/20 at 12:27 pm to tiger626
Unless I am pre-patent. Likely you can shed virus for 24-48 hours before you show symptoms. There is the spot where we are infecting people.
Posted on 6/28/20 at 12:28 pm to chryso
As long as they don’t leave the dorm and infect everyone else. Problem is they won’t quarantine and give it to others, like their parents.

Unless you figure in the other people they infect. Nobody cares if they go have fun but they damn sure care when they give it to grandma.

At the expense of getting through this. Some will get sick, some won’t. Most will make it through.

The death rate is extremely low for the precautions we are taking.

Yes. Unlike the idiots you see on TV, my degree isn’t in journalism.

If people aren’t taking precautions around their elderly people by now them that’s on them
There are things that can be done to be around elderly people & still protect them

Well then obviously grandma doesn’t care either if she allowed them to get close. Let’s not forget that 40% (and that’s with NY and MI being creative with the reporting) of the deaths are of nursing home patients. If you are in a nursing home your days are already numbered and you are susceptible to a whole host of illness that can cause death outside of COVID. Keeping the nursing homes protected as they are will be a HUGE REDUCTION in the deaths!
As far as the non- nursing home folks....
If YOU are vulnerable then YOU need to limit all social interactions and YOU need to take all the precautions bc that is the only thing YOU can control. Sure it would be great if everyone wears a mask at all times but don’t expect it just so YOU can do fun things. The sooner everyone else builds the herd immunity the sooner YOU will be able to do the fun stuff again.

It will eventually cause herd immunity, but it will take a while, and while we are waiting a lot of vulnerable people may die. Simply because young people don't care- they barely feel sick and think as long as they are wearing a mask they are cool to go everywhere even if they are on quarantine. Trust me, I am dealing with a 19-year-old who is quarantined. She lives in her own place, so I am fine, but she went to Petco and Subway during the quarantine. She is waiting on results from CVS. ( no pics. She's my daughter, I will fight ya over this)

Very selfish attitude. The same one that drives the current surge in cases. Lots of that going around. Virtually impossible for anyone to have no human contact, what with needing food and all.
Posted on 6/28/20 at 2:15 pm to LSUJML
You are right but most of the people I’m reading aren’t doing that and don’t care. All they care about is the fact that they aren’t high risk, so screw everybody else.
