But people are getting tested bc they are required to for one reason or another hence all of the positives. Requiring personal responsibility by govt mandate is just silly.

My 12 year old daughter had to take a test in order to go to camp, camp she’s been looking forward to all year, yep she tested positive.
Not one fricking symptom. Now she can’t go to camp and is fricking devastated.
My heart breaks for her. Not only does she not get to go but her cousin that she was going with can’t go either because she was exposed even though she tested negative

The 14 day quarantine for being at the same place as someone who tested positive is starting to seem excessive, and you did not expose your wife unless you test positive.

I’m not talking about the idea of forced testing. I’m just saying if everyone was responsible you can function in a pretty normal world.
Young people getting the virus is ideal in a bubble. But they are largely irresponsible so it doesn’t really matter.,

The irresponsible thing was protesting if health of population was the main goal. Protests were widely encouraged by many people in power. To not even mention it or in many cases downplay the role the protests played caused a lot of folks to not give a damn. Face masks are only effective if practicing social distancing so 1000s of people packed together even if everyone was wearing a mask is still going to cause transmission.
100 people at a park celebrating little Johnny’s graduation was inconceivable. 1000s of people packed shoulder to shoulder yelling and screaming (You project saliva much more we you yell and scream mind you)in Jackson square was applauded. Something is wrong with that.

It is ideal for the virus in its present state. Especially for health workers, food service workers and others who are involved with essential services. If it evolves to a more dangerous form, then a different strategy would need to be used.
This is the de facto approach anyway. Most people are ignoring governmental orders to shelter in place. Surprisingly, a majority think that wearing masks and social distancing are the best ways to avoid getting the virus. At least among older people.

Isn’t this the desired outcome to attain “herd immunity”? Would attempting to slow this portion down significantly just prolong the inevitable since a vaccine is still several months (if ever) away from being an option.
This is the logical and rational approach, young people being exposed and building herd immunity before a viable vaccine becomes available, as it could be a while.
I'm over 65 have other health risk factors and am staying isolated. It sucks not being able to hang with my grand kids this summer but they're old enough to understand without alarming the younger ones that paw paw is gonna die.
I'm managing my exposure risk cautiously and prudently as all who are at risk like me should. Younger folks should not be concerned about getting on with life.

I applaud you sir! People want to blame the young for being irresponsible but Imo it is more the at risk folks being irresponsible. The at risk folks should know how young people can be but yet expect the young to take the precautions to protect them.

She was so looking forward to it. We would have never known she was positive had she not taken the test. We would have just continued on living our lives as normal. Now her camp week is ruined, my wife tested negative but me and my son didn’t test bc we aren’t showing any symptoms but we’re having to pretty much stay home. The CDC called us and told us we had to go test but frick them. I’m not going test unless I’m showing symptoms.
Then they asked my wife for the names and phone numbers of all the kids my daughter was around for the past week, all those kids are testing negative.
I’m convinced they are trying to scare everyone into getting tested so they can trace people.

This is my main complaint where I am. People who do not take precautions all of a sudden get holier than thou about it. As we increased contact what did you think was going to happen!? You haven't cared for 3 months and all of a sudden you need to blame everyone for making you unsafe after you were in a packed bar?
