Why is it illegal to drive a car without a seatbelt, but not to ride a motorcycle?

Really makes you think

Because staying attached to a crashing motorcycle is worse for you.

You’d want to be strapped to a motorcycle if you had to lay it down or flipped it?
That’s…….interesting.

Becuase just like studies have shown you are much safer with a seatbelt in a car…studies have shown you are much safer when not strapped to a motorcycle during an accident

Because Seat belt laws have very little to do with safety and very much to do with fines and giving the government "justification" to violate your 4th amendment rights
ETA: by ALL MEANS wear your seatbelt. It will save your life. But the laws are there to benefit the state, not you.

When did it become mandatory for seatbelts? I remember as a kid I NEVER wore one and my dad used to say they were for pussies.

How people are able to afford insurance on motorcycles is a bigger question.

Motorcycles are relatively cheap to insure. They don't cause much damage when they hit things.

That's not what he's saying. If the government is concerned with safety enough to mandate seatbelts in cars, why are motorcycles legal? And why don't school busses have seatbelts?
And why is alcohol legal and marijuana illegal...
The answer is that your big brother is stupid and inconsistent.

So you're wanting the government to ban motorcycles to be consistent in your eyes?

Seatbelts in cars save lives. Seatbelts on a motorcycle would be retarded. This thread is weird.
