Until you've lived there, you don't understand how difficult it is to get repair people to come and ...duh...do repairs.

Your A.C. goes out, and the guys you call won't come to the quarter. You find one who will, but you have to guarantee he'll have a place to park, so he won't have to carry his gear four blocks, and that if he's there more than two hours he won't be ticketed. So you and your spouse make sure that you have the place near the front of your townhouse has your car in it, and the space is large enough for a work truck. When he arrives, one of you pulls out and goes somewhere for several hours. Even if you don't want to, it's the only way to get work done.

And this isn't just the Quarter. A lot of uptown streets have similar parking restrictions.

One of the coolest things about the FQ is that it is a real working, living neighborhood. It is not some sterile Williamsburg tourist area, Go try to tell the Bostonians on Beacon Hill that it will be sealed off from vehicles and they have to take a shuttle bus to get home.

Who’s going to stand on each street and make sure each car is a delivery or cab?

San Diego has 5th street m-f until 5pm you can drive on it,Saturday and Sunday it is pedestrian only they have vendors .
It is extremely clean and well run.
Neither of these can the city of New Orleans provide.

There was no corner of culture smoking weed, of trash cans filled and garbage placed on the sidewalk.

It was a my reaction was this probably what bourbon street was like in the 50's

The right plan is to keep the royal and bourbon commercial sections closed most of the afternoon/night, allowing for deliveries and such in the AM, AND stop allowing cars to cross the commercial section of bourbon in the evenings. Yes it will require people to walk a block to get a uber/lyft, but those streets are gridlocked anyways on the weekend/busy nights, so you aren't losing anything.

Like him or not, Nunguesser had the best idea for the quarter, make the whole area a state park to get it out of New Orleans' control. It's a tourist attraction anyways, let the state tourism department take care of it. State law enforcement without hinderance would do well in that area

For the love of God. Would you rubes stop acting like the French Quarter is somehow unique because it's a "real working, living neighborhood".

Nunguesser just wants more tax dollars milked out of the FQ to pay for other projects around the state.

If the tax dollars generated stayed in the area there MIGHT be more support.

Funny y’all think this is a great idea considering LaToya wanted to do this and got shouted down by people who actually live and work there.

The hecklers veto is not always the best gauge. Bringing back pontchatrain beach isn’t a bad idea because vocal neighbors complain about parking. People complain about everything.

On Sundays in Mexico, City, the Paseo Reforma shuts down to vehicular traffic and becomes a pedestrian only thoroughfare. This is on of the main arteries down a city with 20,000,000 people.

And it’s wonderful. People and families take to the street to run, bike and recreate.

Now Mexicans are superior to New Orleans are still care about families and Christ, but if you made the French quarter pedestrian only for large portions of each Sunday I think it would prove to be a big hit with residences and business alike.
