Worse than it was doing before colonization because of the redistribution of lands during that period and then the suddenness of the ending of colonization along with the drain on resources. It's been much more sustained, but it's not that different than post WWI Germany where the country saw hyperinflation, rampant poverty, and was ripe for the taking for a fanatic like Hitler.

Strangely enough, I follow a Nigerian message board about new projects in country. There are tons of patriotic baws that know they are defeated by their government. The vast majority - in my opinion - don’t want to illegally tap into pipelines and steal, they want an opportunity to grow

No one to sell to and no one to tell them they aren't civilized. Africa was a hell of a lot more civilized than the rest of the world a few centuries ago.
Not having A/C and silicon chips doesn't mean they aren't civilized, despite what North American capitalists lead you to believe.
