Why has there been an explosion in burger joints in last 2 years or so?

This was already a competitive, low margin market.
I see new burger place after new burger place pop up every 2 months it seems.
Any idea what is driving this?

There are a surprising number of adults who won't eat anything more adventurous than a burger and fries.

People like hamburgers?

It's just fast food burger joints losing their market share due to shitty employees, rising costs, and lowering quality of product
I can get 3 lbs of dog food at McDonald's or 1.25 lbs of human food at five guys- for the same price

Part of it for sure and the fact that every one is in such a hurry now and to eat on the go

Country feels “rich” again. Endless small business hope and ebullience. But at the end of the day the current real estate models and government regulation make it pretty much a “kick the can down the road” endeavor.

Low margin? They are charging $15-18 for a hamburger. And getting it.

People like burgers but are trending away from typical fast food places because the difference in cost is marginal but the quality of product increases dramatically.

Unfortunately most of the $15 burgers aren't all that. They still can't get the flavor right and most are fried just like McDonald's

Because America is starting to realize that most fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Jack-in-the-Box, you name it....they aren’t even serving real meat burgers anymore.
So the fact that newer restaurants are advertising a steak burger just means that they serve what America called a hamburger 20 years ago . Most drive-ins, Freddy’s Culver’s and Five Guys are booming for this very reason.
It is a sad sad state of affairs within the America's food industry

Yea, I think a decade ago, when I could barely get out of Five Guys for under $10 I started wondering what was up.
Is it a good product? Yes. Was it, in 2009 dollars, worth $9.75 for a burger, fries and coke? Not even close.
Haven't been in a while, what is it now at 5G? $11.50?

I don't know but some are going to fall hard once the liberals run all the Angus and Hereford off the cliff side.
