Why don’t they make brake lights get brighter the harder you press?

Maybe with self driving vehicles it’s moot but it seems like we could have done this years ago. It would be nice to know if the guy in front of me is tapping his brakes or slamming them down.

Maybe it could go from an orange to a dark red. How has nobody gotten on this?

With the amount of rednecks that live around me, I'm glad they have any color brakelights.

So the people behind can stop harder? Know how many accidents that would cause?

The problem is easily cured if people actually knew how to use their brakes properly.

But to your point, I’m not sure there’s enough shift between on and brake to make it noticeable.

It's a good idea but I feel like you are complicating an easy concept for dumb drivers. Red means be alert and be prepared to stop. Doesn't get any easier than that

Light braking in a new Z06 is a lot different than in an Escalade. Even worse when braking hard.

Misspelled “break”.

PS: Snack less.

They do. You’re just not pressing hard enough.

Why don't the front of vehicles indicate brakes along with the rear?

They get brighter as the person trailing gets closer.

Why don’t people learn to be a little more patient and not tailgate everyone cause they are in a hurry and wouldn’t need to worry about how hard the person i. Front of them is braking.

Why can’t everyone just put down the electronics and focus on driving?

I think adding colors to a braking system would create bigger problems and force people to read into it and also open lawsuits about the brightness of the brakes they saw….

No one uses their rear view mirror anyway. Would just be more lights to replace.

Been saying this for years. I wrote up a proposal for an LSU project when I was in school 20 years ago.

Pressure sensitive brake lights. It’s a no brainer.

Also, why not have a system that records the video on all the cameras the cars have these days? I have a countless cameras on my car. Record the video. Every time you start your car, you have the option to save the video of the last trip or erase and start over.

Image the crime deterrent if criminals were worried about being recorded on any potential car within their crime.

It is hard to determine relative brightness, maybe that's why it's not done.

I have noticed that newer model Subaru's have brake lights that flash 3-4 times when the brakes are first applied, then turn on solid. That is, to me, a better way to get attention.

Audi is working on this with oled taillights. Future taillights will be much more communicative but by then many cars will be self driving.
