Why does our society focus on buying things instead of increasing free time?

Our leaders talk endless about making it easier for us to buy houses and cars, yet they never talk about a 32 hour work week or similar.

Our leaders focus on it because consumption makes line go up, and line go up means economic leaders make more money and political leaders get reelected (and make more money).
The average person focusses on it because the average person is a fricking lemming who does what they are told while deluding themselves that they are some free thinking trailblazer.

You need 40-50 hours to pay for that 3/4 million dollar home and your new F-250 and your wife's Audi.
Not to mention putting your kids into private schools/universities so they can afford a million dollar home and work 40-60 hours a week to pay for them.

I havent worked a full 40 hour week in a couple of years. My boat starts sinking if im not paying attention and my truck sucks but I'm happy as a dog with two dinks

That's a great question. I guess part of the point of making money is to be able to enjoy more leisure time.
Personally I like to live fairly simply and having more leisure time is one of the things I strive for.
On the other hand it's nice to have nice things and this is America.

Figure out how to work a 32 hour work week all you want.
Just don’t be upset that there will be a lot of people who will work more and end up with more income and more opportunity.
Not saying it’s always just about the number of hours you put it, but it can certainly be part of it.
There’s no government act or program that could implement a 32 hour work week that we should ever support. Unless you work for the government, it’s none of their business.

Debt is the biggest attraction and killer of happiness. It’s engrained to finance a car. WHAT THE LITERAL frick? That should never occur yet here you have the Jonses financing other luxery shite as well.
The American dream still exists if you’re not a selfish, loser, greedy a-hole. I’m retiring at 49 at the end of the year because I chose to own my own domain. Fish and play golf as much as I want.

With cash I have on hand. The prices just don’t make sense so refuse to pull the trigger.
The 35 year old field worker tho has no problem financing it for 72 months then crying to the government about inflation. No difference than him and a homeless man begging on a street corner. This same POS tho will claim he’s a hardworking man trying to take care of his family. In reality he’s the biggest problem and a selfish loser.

My only indulgence is eating out every day, which I didn't start to do so often until I figured out I cannot run out of money doing it.
I never have cared about boats or other moving vehicles because I would feel obligated to use them more than I would ever want to.
