Why do teenagers and junior highers wear hoodies-jackets in summer??

I always had my hoodie with me, in high school, but that was to use as a pillow for class.

Lol i work at a school and we always talk about this. There can be 100 outside druing break, running, playing basketball or football, 100deg summer heat, and 70 will have on hoodies or jackets

I would have loved having the “ cold “ problem in school. We had one small box fan and open windows to cool the classroom.

This is BS because they (middle school aged kids) wear them outside for lunch/recess all the time, and no joke, it’s more than 50% of the kids. It’s absolutely insane

My kids do because the school classrooms are freezing. Son just stuffs one in his backpack, but my daughter wears one to school every day.
Neither wear one on the weekends, just to school.

I get that it's cold in the school, but I see them mid-September at the bus stop wearing hoodies and it's 100+ head index.

both my teenage sons do this.
oldest one has always had some issue with “cold”. keeps the A/C off in his room, wears long sleeves all summer, etc.
short kid is just weird.
wears a hoodie and shorts to school this time of year.
but will walk outside in shorts, barefoot and no shirt to check out the “snow” we had a couple winters ago.

Drive down La. Avenue in Laffy June-July and I promise you will see dozens of teens wearing hoodies. No way they are cold.
its got to be miserable trying to be different.

Seeing a teen wearing a knit beanie in the south in the summertime tells me all I need to know about the intelligence of said teen.
fricking dumbasses.

This is the correct, and only answer needed.
I remember when my stepson was a teen and found a brown trench coat at a thrift store he just had to have. He'd wear that thing all year long, even when it was in the upper 90's in the summer here in N.O.
Dumb arse finally outgrew that fashion disaster.

More bizarre to me are the kids that wear shorts in the winter. It'll be like 20 degrees at the bus stop, and kid that lives down the street strolls up in shorts. Daughter said a lot of boys at her school wear shorts in the winter.

Never had that problem when I was attending schools in S.E. Louisiana. None of the schools I attended had A/C in the classrooms, just huge arse fans and jalousie windows with no screens. So, not only did you sweat, but also got ate up by mosquitoes.

It's for sports, at least personally speaking anyway. Even in my mid 20s my casual wear is athletic shorts and a hoodie in the Winter. Never know when a impromptu game of soccer or frisbee is going to bust out.

My middle school in Alabama didn't have AC. Definitely didn't need a hoodie in those classrooms. Didn't have central heat either, and the winters were much more uncomfortable than the summers. I rarely took my coat off on really cold days there.
My high school had AC, and some of the classrooms would get cold, but nobody wore sweatshirts that I recall. I'm sure some of the girls did and I just don't remember, but it definitely wasn't a thing like it is now.

Pimp Jr dresses like it’s midnight in Oslo in mid July in Louisiana . He dresses like shite. I just grimace internally and keep my mouth shut. If I start thinking about all the simple shite that continues to evade him, it would drive me mad. He just doesn’t get it yet.

At our school we are having a problem with vaping and they use their hoodies to disguise it. They put the vape in their fist and bring it to their mouth as if they are coughing and then they exhale into their hoodie. we had one student pass out and throw up because of a vape and lowered his heart rate and blood pressure so low it almost killed him. Our school did a good job keeping it out of the media.

Why do hipsters wear beanies when it's 100 degrees outside?
