Why do people rush to be first to board a plane?

I like to wait until last minute, sit on that thing as short a time as possible.
Maybe because of worrying about overhead carry on space but Ive only had to gate check a carry on one time due to lack of space.

overhead storage is the only thing i can figure. my goal is to always be the last guy on the plane and the first guy off.

My wife has had to go to Dallas twice for work recently, and both times she's had to gate check her bags because the flight was at capacity. But other than wanting to avoid that, I see no reason to get on the plane early.

Because if you don't, all those trashy people who insist on bringing their pillows with them will take up all the space in the overhead bins and you won't have anyplace to put your laptop bag.

Some people should be forced to take a plane etiquette class. I flew this past weekend and both ways whenever we landed, practically everyone from the middle to the back jumped up and started trying to go ahead and push forward. It's like hey morons, we unload front to back. Settle the frick down.

Maybe because they want to be one of those people who act like they are in a drool producing sleep before the plane is even full. Those people annoy the shite out of me b/c you know damn good and well they aren't asleep.

If you sit first class you get drink service before takeoff. That's all I'd be interested in. Generally I don't carry on anymore - only bring my ipad - it's liberating not giving a damn about overhead bin space.

FWIW, I usually lay back as well. I don't mind gate checking unless I have a tight window on my next flight.

You have got to get in there early and establish fart dominance. You want your farts to be the predominate smell in the plane otherwise you get in there late and have to smell other people's farts for a couple of hours.

I'm 6'5". I am not claustrophobic, but I hate trying to squeeze my way past a bunch of numb nuts who take their slow arse time getting seated, or past people already in their seats to get to mine.
I also hate standing in line for 10 minutes with my head tilted because the airplane ceiling is too low.
Getting seated first helps avoid this.

when i flew to my parents for christmas I was in first class
very first one on the plane. I had a screwdriver and some nuts and relaxed. Then I was the very first person off.
It was awesome

Because they don't want to sit in the back next to the shitter and be the last guy off the plane. I think it's kind of silly, but I get it.
Other reason is short people rush so they can be dicks and get the exit row seats so my tall arse has to get scrunched up by the shitter.

do you not pick your seat when you book? Seems like a pretty easy way to avoid the problem you describe.
