When my kids were little I had a POS truck I would park in the street when they were playing in the front yard blocking more than half the street which was already narrow, most of the, cars had little choice but to slow down. Most of the neighbors liked, but someone did call the cops who told don't worry about.

This is a good idea. I live in a neighborhood where a lot of houses are going up. Our particular part of the street doesn’t have many houses so people haul arse in front of our house(speed limit is 20, and there is a sign three lots down). People go at least 40, maybe pushing 50 bc we are on a straight away. Really aggravating. Im gonna park my car full on in the street when my daughter is playing outside.

Just curious...were the girl and the dog walking in the street or on the sidewalk? Hopefully not in the street...that's obviously a stupid thing to do.

Not taking any blame away from the driver here, just trying to get the full picture.

While I am not big on hauling arse through neighborhoods I just cant gin up much outrage for this, streets were built for cars to drive on, if you choose to walk your dog in the dark on one you should be well aware of the inherent risk.

Be careful. Those vehicles present sight distance issues and blind spots.

They are children and they may stray into the unobstructed lane; however, the drivers have even more issues seeing them until it’s to late. Side-street parking can be very hazardous in residential settings....

On a playful note, just randomly place a few standards bricks about 100’ either side of your property lines. Not a shite ton, but a few that are easily seen and spread them evenly.

Now, if the speed limit is 35+, then I advise against it.....

I'm not sure of the details. My wife has not talked to her since it happened.

I don’t have a dog or young children.
My neighbor has both and it pisses me off to see people going 40-45 down a hill coming past our houses.

Some of you are too stupid to realize that children and dogs are at risk because they are children and dogs.

All the training you think you can do can’t account for that one time where disaster hits.

We're facing the same problem in my neighborhood in BR. Waze and Google use 2 of our streets as alternative routes during rush hour.

What's really sad is how angry other residents, who don't live on the affected streets, resent the installation of 3 speed humps to try to stop the speeding. Hopefully, it's a minority of selfish people just raising the biggest stink.

That is a civic planning and POS developer issue and should be addressed with the local government, residential streets should never be laid out in a manner that encourages using them as cut throughs or alternates.

I moved into neighborhood more than 30 years ago. The area has grown exponentially. Yeah, developers have way too much sway. It would have been a lot worse, but we did prevent a street from being lengthened to tie in with a main surface street. The other 3 surface streets which affect my neighborhood, were rural roads, 30 years ago.

Normally I make fun of the "get off my lawn"posts but I agree with OP.

Don't put innocent kids in danger. They can be impulsive and dart into the street even when being watched carefully by parents.

Kids killed at school bus incidents

Not exactly on point but the principles are the same.

Kids are just more unaware of dangers.

Kids' or parents' fault though, right Kingbob?

I doubt he will reply. I asked for one logical reason for driving 10 miles over the speed limit in a subdivision and he broke down his whole commute and tried to imply that speeding through a subdivision saved him 30 minutes each day.
