I honestly think driving fast makes some people feel like a tough guy or something or at least subconsciously. You really aren't shaving more than a few minutes off your time unless on a highway or interstate.

Is it really a problem when no kids have been hurt or killed

Sounds like this thread has more to do with your insecurities rather than the speed of drivers

i'm in the same boat. nice neighborhood, mostly nice people but trashy people for some reason like to cut through our neighborhood because it's quicker than taking roads around the neighborhood. i'm in favor of speed bumps and more stop signs. frick the speeders, i got a little girl i'm trying to raise.

it's not even just the trash too, it's soccer stay-at-home moms who live in our neighborhood talking on their phones and not paying attention thinking driving 35 in our 25mph zone is really going to get them home that much quicker.

Are the kids actually playing in the streets? And how many have actually been hurt?

If the answer to either is "zero" then I fail to see the problem.

If kids are just playing in the yard then it doesn't matter how fast cars are going. Teach your kids how to cross a street safely, quickly, and far away from any sharp corners. There's a lot a concerned parent can and should do that doesn't rely on driver behavior.

Subdivision I just moved into has only 1 entrance point, so that is a major plus for me and my wife. We don't have kids yet, but I get on her arse all the time about driving over the speed limit in a neighborhood and subdivision

I figure the longer I am on the street, the greater chance I’ll hit a kid. Blast through there and reduce that risk.

Yes. I know exactly what OP is talking about. I see cars blowing through stop signs and driving 40 mph in my neighborhood almost daily. Even when I'm on a walk with my kids they don't slow when they pass us and hardly give any berth as well.

Also, kids are hurt and killed every day by reckless drivers. Example from yesterday:

Driver charged with reckless homicide in crash at school bus stop that killed identical twin brothers and sister

People close the door on their four wheeled bubble and it is then all about them. They are isolated and protected from the outside. They have little concern for other, more vulnerable people (pedestrians, cyclists, kids playing), around them.

Would suck to seriously hurt or kill someone just trying to save 30 seconds getting to your destination. Or the next red light.

The vast majority of speeders through a residential area are people that live in the neighborhood.

So go ask your neighbors. Better yet, ask yourself.

Because all kids listen to everything their parents say and do what they ae told all of the time. Why is it so hard to just obey the speed limit and not speed through neighborhoods?

Exactly. Also, what about kids riding their bikes or chasing down a ball that rolls into the street? How hard is it to not be a piece of shite?
