For some reason, folks in Lafayette, and a couple of idiots from way down in Grand Isle have told me I'm from east Texas.
Because people from certain areas of a shithole state get so insecure when anyone brings up the fact that there are other parts of said shithole state.

Elitist gate keeping especially from Lafayette folks.
If there's one word to say about Lafayette, I don't think elite would be it.

why do you want to be associated with anything Lafayette?
Posted on 7/8/20 at 11:36 am to CouillonJean
Because Laffy is the most self-absorbed parish in the state. Look at Ohh La Laa. No one cares about that school outside of Laffy

People in laffy like to dust their crawfish, don't they?

Lived in both places. Grew up in one. Lake Charles is not part of Acadiana. Lots of people with French surnames in both places. Accents are different. Lafayette is in Acadiana.

Had a guy dump them in a cooler, pour two bottles of French's mustard on, shake em and serve. Acted like nothing was off.

What a peasant.
Somebody that lives in River Ranch would have used honey dijon.

I hate people that try to say they are from unique cultural area just because they live somewhat close to it. Here in the Ms delta it’s people from Grenada/Winona/Carrollton claiming they’re from the delta. Annoys me to no end
People from the north shore do with with nola. In general people like to do this with South Louisiana as well. They’ll think because they are somewhat geographically close, that means they’re culturally close also. No it does not. This is a thing in the Florida parishes and SW/Central LA.

I grew up hearing Acadiana was 13 parishes with Lafayette being right in the middle....."Hub City" came from that I was told.

A lot of Cajuns who migrated there via Ged during the oil boom.

People do awful things to crawfish everywhere.
Had a co-worker from central LA get real defensive when I asked him how he boiled. I understood why when he told me.
He brings them to an instant boil, dumps them in an ice chest, then upends two cans of zatarain's over them and serves. He was adamant that "he don't frick around with crawfish" and had been doing it that way for 30 years.

Yes, because the Northshore is part of the Greater New Orleans region. Same with St. Charles parish, etc... the Northshore is a suburb of Nola. Not to mention, the majority of people, at least from Mandeville, Madisonville and Covington, are either from the Southshore originally, or are a generation removed.

I wouldn’t call Calcasieu part of Acadiana. Probably part of the demographics on some maps, but culturally, in my opinion, Acadiana ends around Jennings when going down I-10.

I lived in both cities. LC can claim Cajun culture but it is not Acadiana.

I am content with Lafayette and the surrounding 50 miles being “Acadiana”. Keep the title bruh. So long as SE Louisiana, area west of New Orleans, German Coast, etc., is also not ”Acadiana”. And if we agree Baton Rouge is not a Cajun city at all, especially not East Baton Rouge, keep it. At end of the day, Terrebonne/Lafourche is as different from “Acadiana” as SWLA is. And you can’t consider Cameron parish is Acadiana, it’s only got what 10k residents?

So what are the northern/eastern/southern borders? Because if Acadiana is defined as a unique sub-region of south Louisiana comprising Lafayette and the surrounding 50 miles, that’s cool.
