For some reason, folks in Lafayette, and a couple of idiots from way down in Grand Isle have told me I'm from east Texas. I've asked online and gotten the same answer. I am totally lost, people in Orange/Beaumont are a different world from LC/Westlake. Yes we have a lot of idiots, but they are a different breed of stupid. I grew up with boils, fish fries, gumbo at mamaws, fishing, french immersion, you name it.

I'm not saying I sound, look or act, like Mouret Gautreaux, but I don't know how LC is the same as Vidor. No, LC is definitely not the pinnacle of Cajun culture, but undoubtedly is very different from East TX. Elitist gate keeping especially from Lafayette folks. What y'all think

Seems like hipsters and the real folks are not anywhere of that mindset. When I've talk to real fishermen from terrebonne or lafourche I've gotten nothing but respect. Just the heart of acadiana kicking me in the nuts

It's not part of Acadiana. Lafayette is the heart but it goes from about New Iberia to the Ville Platte/Mamou/Eunice area.

Just an assumption by people who grew up in the Lafayette metro area. I honestly didn't know Calcasieu was part of Acadiana until about 3 years ago.

If people from Lafayette were actually tall enough to look down their nose at anyone, they would.

Acadiana is the name given to the traditional twenty-two parish Cajun homeland, which in 1971 the Louisiana state legislature officially recognized for its unique Cajun and Acadian heritage (per House of Representatives Concurrent Resolution No. 496). It stretches from just west of New Orleans to the Texas border along the Gulf of Mexico coast, and about 100 miles inland to Marksville. This includes the following 22 parishes: Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Charles, St. James, St. John The Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion, and West Baton Rouge.

Why do people from Lafayette scoff when anyone tries to attach the city name to the university in town?

My uncle still lives in LC, and he said folks are acting like this isn't pandemic isn't a thing, nobody will wear a mask. Not a surprise for Calcasieu Parish, it's redneck cajun land, but I was pretty surprised when I read about a couple of incidents in Sulphur and Vinton where people got attacked over it lol.

Make up your dern mind sha.
