The newer one's are much better than in the past. Newer Jags aren't any worse than the Germans (excluding Porsche, which has always had very good reliability compared to the other makes).

I have an office in south Hampton and an employee told me that license plate numbers correspond to the year a month (well 3 month groups) and that it is a major status symbol.

My guess is the cars don’t have to last long because people will replace them often.

Lotus drivetrain have been produced by Toyota since 2000. Pretty bulletproof, even when driven hard.

That's funny, but untrue. ARM Holdings, inventor and licensor of the current most popular CPU in the world, is a British tech company.

Most of the British motorcycles used Lucas electrical components and they were iffy at best. You just never knew when they would start acting up and leave your arse on the side of the road.

I owned both Triumph and BSA motorcycles in the 70's and they were fun to ride------when they ran. We use to say BSA stood for Bastard Stopped Again.

same could be said for German cars

The Germans are brilliant mechanical engineers, but shite electrical engineers. With all the tech going into cars these days, that problem is exacerbated. Old german cars can last forever, if properly maintained

To be honest I don’t really associate reliability with any European car manufacturer outside of maybe VW.

Newer 911's are great as long as the switch that actuates the reverse lights and mirror-dip feature doesn't fail.

$15K repair that requires replacement of the transmission.

I don’t want to believe you, but I’ve also owned a German luxury car before.

They never had the cash to do it correctly. Poor finish, catastrophic rust problems, etc.

The earlier Range Rover has all that plus crappy electronics and shitty engines.

I've seen some rebuilds that look promising, but they are absurdly priced.
