Lotus drivetrain have been produced by Toyota since 2000. Pretty bulletproof, even when driven hard.
Mazda makes a better British roadster than the British ever made.

All British vehicles are constructed by their dental students of course.

Do you know why the Brits don’t make computers?
They haven’t figured out how to make them leak oil.

They never had the cash to do it correctly. Poor finish, catastrophic rust problems, etc.
This explains everything unfortunately, the UK emerged from the war victorious, but broke. They couldn’t afford the basic investments required to keep up with their competitors. And Land Rover is the best example of that. They kept on making the same vehicle with the most minor modifications for more than 50 years.
Before the war the UK was the consumer goods powerhouse, after the war, it was Germany.
When BMW purchase Land Rover they were horrified to find that LR was still painting vehicles by hand.
Another good example is Icons attempt to build a better Defender, they found that nothing about the original body panels was symmetrical. Everything was off, just slightly.

The newer one's are much better than in the past. Newer Jags aren't any worse than the Germans (excluding Porsche, which has always had very good reliability compared to the other makes).
I don’t know Jaguar, but starting with the 06 model year, Land Rovers are actually really good purchases. The Discovery 3, the Range Rover, the Sport. They’re reliable and for the first time, have really decent engines.
They’re a far cry from the old Series trucks, or the Classics.
They don’t have half the charm though, but I guess that’s the trade off.

Well your luxury brands such as Bentley and Aston Martin are hand-built, not built on an assembly line. Also, as expensive as these vehicles are, they are not meant to be daily drivers. I would still take the following car over any in the world, reliability be damned...

Gotta love those Toyotas with the Takata air bags that can send metal shards into your neck and face.

And the rest of the car falls apart around that drivetrain.

Most of the British motorcycles used Lucas electrical components and they were iffy at best. You just never knew when they would start acting up and leave your arse on the side of the road.
I owned both Triumph and BSA motorcycles in the 70's and they were fun to ride------when they ran. We use to say BSA stood for Bastard Stopped Again.
It was the positive ground system that was most of the culprit. A positive ground system allows a lot of corrosion buildup at the various connection points in the system.

They do odd British only engineering.
Take the rear brakes on a jaguar. They are on the rear end, not the wheels.
They use different ways of engineering.
Honestly the French and Italians are much worse.
Citorens are insanely over engineered.

Culturally, the Brits value performance and aesthetics over reliability. Just look at the car brands produced by that country: Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lotus, McLaren, Aston Martin, Jaguar.
Besides, "reliability" is just a consumer code work for cheap.

I appreciate the comparison, the old Land Rovers were hand built, but hand built by drunk union labor in the midlands.
It wasn’t exactly a quality product.
