Brings us back to the logistics. Union ships wouldn't be too far from home ports to resupply and repair.
Brits would have to frick up to Canada or the Caribbean. And then dealing with any coastalnor river ironclads would be a bitch.

That was not off the table, but much of the global powers did not have the resources. The French and English were both in the middle of or coming out of conflict. Spain was, too. The timing was wrong. Invading the US would have been a costly endeavor, both economically and with attrition.

Why didn't a foreign nation invade during the Civil war?
Plus why interrupt your enemy when they're busy fighting and killing themselves? If a foreign country tried invading, there's a good chance the civil war ends and it unites the north and south in fighting against the foreign invaders.

Unlikely they knew. By the time, they did find out it was over

You know how scary that would have been? A horseback riding ghost of Napoleon leading his forces. We would have been doomed.

Germany wasn't even a nation in 1865

UK Foreign Secretary Lord Derby in 1866:
“It is the duty of the Government of this country, placed as it is with regard to geographical position, to keep itself upon terms of goodwill with all surrounding nations, but not to entangle itself with any single or monopolising alliance with any one of them; above all to endeavour not to interfere needlessly and vexatiously with the internal affairs of any foreign country.”
The business of the UK was the business of running its worldwide Empire and funneling the profits back home, not bogging itself down in land wars oceans away.
“Splendid Isolation” has become the term that’s used to describe the prevailing national mood in the UK during Victorian times.
It’s also a wonderful song from the late Warren Zevon.

Mexico and Britain are the only logical answers
Mexico could have invaded to help the Union capturing Texas while moving into Ark and Missouri
They could have used their alliance with the Union to reclaim portions of Texas, NM, and Arizona
Britain would have simply wanted to weaken the emerging USA that ultimately took their place as world #1

The hostile nations were chopping down trees to mill the wood by hand to make the naval cargo ships and sails to transport their armies. They just couldn't deploy that quickly. That was a few years before FedEx served international addresses.

Yep, and Mexico was in the midst of its own Civil War and fighting a French invasion.
Britain considered it, and definitely aided the Confederate Navy to a degree, but after Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation, they knew public sentiment in England wouldn’t support it. Plus, thanks to their conquests in India and Egypt, Britain was no longer dependent on cheap Southern cotton to fuel her textile industry.

Mexico had its own invasion and a type of civil war between republic & nobility to deal with. If anything France took advantage of our civil war to attempt to take control of Mexico and throw out the republic. We were supporters of their republic govt before Civil War and then after sold them arms (some Americans involved after as well) and threatened to enforce Monroe Doctrine, but during we could only really voice support for republic govt and/or apprehension over the installation of the Empire.
