For the size of Dallas, traffic isn’t bad at all.

I would’ve agreed with that in the past, but the more they build up the northern suburbs, the worst the toll road is getting.
Now I realized that supposedly it isn’t anything like Los Angeles.

Dallas is still immensely popular because it has nice areas, keeps hood confined to hood areas, lots of conservatives and traditionalists, and money.
That's Fort Worth, not Dallas

In the WORLD? Not even close
Mogadishu, Port Au Price, and 100 others

I lived there in 70 & 71.
It was kinda fun, running with hippyish people and motorcycle types, doing hippyish things all on a shoestring budget.
I came back (Mesquite) in 94 for another few months and the allure was gone.

So genuinely, what is the appeal? For those of you who love Dallas, I would like to hear why, because from my perspective I just do not see it.

I didn’t read much of this thread, but I will point out 1 major city twice the size of Dallas less than 300 miles away. Houston, Texas is the armpits of America.

Fort Worth >>>> Dallas

It’s also better than Houston

Houston is too diverse/has too many foreigners. Dallas feels a lot more American.

Tell me you’ve never traveled without saying you’ve never traveled other than to Gulf Shores and Disney World. You’re from Baton Rouge.

285 loop in Atlanta is pure Hell.
My Daughter and my SIL live in South Highland Park area. The Highland Park/University Park area is beautiful. Go to Highland Park village and see the 100k plus or more cars parked there shopping. Of course you gotta have some OT baller bank accts to reside in that area so. Downtown has alot of homeless people. Stay off 30, 45, 35, 75 and the 635 during rush and your good.

quote:agreed. Many areas have been gentrified(sp). Lower Greenville used to be serious hood. Not anymore. Its been gentrified likensome other areas around Dallas and cleaned up l, now rentals/owned place cost multiple $$$ to live there.

The United States definitely has some rough areas but there’s nowhere in the United States that looks like this:

Yet somehow most of these places have somewhat of a tourism industry and a place people want to visit.

This picture is due north of University Park - north of Northwest Highway. When I was a kid there were NO trees anywhere in that area, but that's clearly not the case today. The Park Cities and areas north have trees everywhere in 2025. It's not the 1970s anymore.
