The cat family includes animals such as house cats, bobcats, lynx, and the big cats like lions, jaguars, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, mountain lions, etc.

But the dog family only includes domesticated dogs, wolves (the only big dog) and the wild dogs in Africa/Australia. Why is there such a discrepancy? Would hyenas be part of the dog family

ETA: coyotes and foxes for parts of the dog family as well, still small though

They're more closely related to cats.

Bears are the big dogs, you moron. (They’re both in the canine family).

No they aren't. Bears are in Ursidae.

Pretty sure those are only domestic dogs that have gotten loose and are wild. Sort of like America's mustangs (horses brought from Europe that got loose and now roam).

Thanks fellow McNeese Cowboy. Sometimes we have to straighten out those who go to the high class schools. Or at least high class in the state.

Bears and dogs are still more much more closely related to each other than either one of them is to cats.

Bears are to dogs as gorillas are to humans.

We killed most of them. They were the monsters in the dark, just outside the campfire light.

They were the eaters of children and livestock.

Some we fed, and over the ages those wolves that were loyal we turned into dogs.

As our arms improved and we settled the forests, we slew the beasts, the Gmorks.

We drove the most fearsome from their caves, took their hides, wore their faces.

The direwolves perished, just like Grendel. The age of man supplanted the age of beasts and those who would not be cowed and serve us fell to blade and bullet.

I mean aren’t wolves in the same respect as dogs?

True, but if I’m not mistaken they are the only cat to do so. They are by far the exception to the rule.
