I love the ones that come in my shop with transmission trouble and tell me how to fix it because they watched a YouTube video on how to do it and it was so simple. Motherfrickers can't even check the oil and they going to tell me how to fix their transmission.

If I heard someone say they needed a"professional" to change a tire I'd laugh in their face.
Two things I don't do. Alignments and automatic transmissions, everything else I'm doing myself.

Jay leno changes his own oil...
I like to change mine because it lets me know how the vehicle is doing and I can look at other things.
It's a hobby.

I don't change my own oil anymore. I used to but it's just not worth the hassle to save a few bucks. No way I'm sitting on the side of the road waiting for AAA to come change a tire for me.

The reason is simple and it's not being "ignorant"... actually it's the opposite. There was a time when I rebuilt just about everything short of having to grind and chamfer valves. Some people do lose money when they take the time to do simple car repair, maintenance, and cleaning tasks ... much cheaper to pay someone to pick up your car and do it.

Honestly in occasion I'll pay to have my oil done.
Usually though it's because I want to. Now lawn care? I pay someone to cut my yard and rake and to clean up.

B/t your specific car forum online and youtube 'fix it' videos, I've saved a fortune changing my own parts over the years.
It amazes how much people pay to simply change brake pads or a simple pulley and belt.

Brake pads/ rotors and that type of thing is something my dad and I usually do together.
I plan on doing the same with my son. He already helps bleed the brakes.
It’s not really about saving money as it spending time together.
I don’t think you can say millineals are all pussies because they can’t change a flat. Somewhere in the 90’s, cars became more computerized. Less and less people did minor repairs. Us Gen Xers didn’t really teach
the milineals simple routine maintenance.
I bet if you showed a timing gun to someone under 30 they would say it was an AR-14.

If I had a fully stocked garage with multiple car lifts and was set up to change oil like a quick lube place I would too. I never change my own oil.

It's not ignorance. Some of us just have better things to do with our time than getting dirty fixing a car when we can have a mechanic do it. Time is valuable.

Depends on if the lug nuts were properly torqued when put on, many of the tire shops over torque them and you are not going to get them off with the little jack handle lug wrench. Last time I took off one of my truck tires required me to hang my 200ib self off the end of a 6 foot cheater pipe on a four way lug wrench.
