Agreed.
Add a helmet and it better be a convertible, with a cage.

If I ride in those with the top down, it feels like my hair is trying to be peeled from my skull.

In the early 2000s, the "attainable" mid level convertibles were the Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Sebring, and Toyota Solara. Essentially coupe/convertible versions of mid level sedans, nothing exciting.
Back then also the S2000 and MR2 Spyder but those were 2 seater more sporty and the ever present Miata.
You always had and still have Mustangs and Camaros.
There's not much out there now beyond Mustang, Camaro, and Miata. Americans don't even care about practical sedans so convertibles will continue to get left in the dust.
Best options now are Z4, BMW 4, Audi A5, Mercedes CLE, but those will run around 60k minimum
Then you go more expensive and more exotic.

1996 Jaguar XJS V-12 for the win
I kid, these are beautiful “motor cars”, actually they are better described as exquisite pieces of static artwork.
I was offered a mint white one for free by a family friend. The car was in wonderful original shape. I passed knowing what pain lay before the owner of that vehicle if they attempted to keep it on the road.

Is the culture of America truly changing that much to where cars are truly looked at purely from a utility standpoint?
If this was the case there would be a lot more vans/minivans on road. By far the most practical family vehicles.

Isn’t the Miata more of a girly car?
Not if you know how to drive it. I know some people that race theirs and could make you lose your lunch on a ride.

Great car. Last year for the V12 was 1995 in the states, your pic is a 1996 with the 4.0 straight six. I've come close to buying one a few times.
The later Jag 4.0/4.2 V8 cars were much better reliability. The entire supply chain was managed by Ford after that breakpoint (97 for 2 door, 98 for 4 door) and the cars were way better.
As for OP, there are few mid-level convertibles becuase there are few mid-level normal cars at all. Everybody wants a minivan now (the doors swing rather than slide so everybody pretends they are SUVs).

Idk about all that, but i will say they are fun as hell to drive. The dad of a girl i used to date had one and he was always going out of town. So we would stay at her house and she would just let me drive her dad's Miata around. We were in HS, so looking back, I am very fortunate i didn't wreck that's car and end up on his hit list.

I bought a used 2018 Mustang eco-boost premium convertible with 47,000 miles on it in early 2020.
I don’t care if some douchebags drive Mustangs.
They’re great mid-level cars and are popular for a reason.
I’ve put 90,000 miles on it so far and no major problems yet. I’m 6’3” and have plenty of legroom. It handles great and has more power than the V8s from 20 years ago.
It’s awesome to put the top down on good weather days here in the south. Best times are from September to June. Highly recommend.

Convertibles sound great when you are young and likely too poor to buy one. When you get older and can afford one, you don’t want it because the sun in your eyes and on your balding head sucks.
My last three cars have had sunroofs. Each got opened about once a year.

I think in Louisiana you can use them a lot in the winter.
Maybe if you like getting wet.
The average rainfall is 15+ inches in the winter.
