Why are lawyers the worst to pay? What can be done?

I've got a small business and normally people pay me for services; no problem.
However, a law firm who is not paying me; quite a bit of money; but promised they would start monthly payments to show good faith, is stiffing me. All my other customers just pay the lump sum they owe. But, it's now a year and they aren't paying - anything.
I imagine it would be very expensive and painful to sue a law firm, and they know it. Any suggestions?

Yep. They're being dicks because they know they can.

They’re only one fender bender away from that big pay day.

Lol
I do depositions and give expert opinions occasionally and have been burned before. I only agree to do it now if they hand me the check before I do it
Lawyers will avoid paying as long as they possibly can

The debt will get big enough, you’ll be willing to settle. They profit, and you feel like you won since you get a decent size lump sum.

I’ve noticed this too. They know it will cost you to fight them and they will represent themselves.
They also think you are scared of them. Lawyer up and sue for legal fees and court costs too.

I had a similar stuation with a lawyer’s wife over an expensive show horse. It dragged on and on until I got with another lawyer who’s wife was in the horse world and he gave me a few key terms to use in a carefully worded letter. About two weeks later, a fat check showed up in the mail.
They’ll pay, but not until they know you are prepared to go to the mat. A letter with language that obviously shows you are consulting with an attorney may do the trick.

Start adding late fees to the bill and see how quick they pay it.

I’m sure you will have this law firm quaking in their boots...they have never seen a suit threat before...
People who are serious don’t threaten suits....they sue.

This. There is bound to be another law firm in town who hates them and would love to sue the shite out of them. Hit them up course costs, legal fees, and interest. Don’t settle.

This is why they coerce you to settle, so they can pay some bills.

Just tell them "I'd hate to have to invoke the provisions of the LA suits on open accounts statute."

Sue them and make sure the State Bar knows about it.

I'm no expert but seems like I've heard before to never accept payment in anything less than full. Once you cash the check for the smaller amount it means they are attempting to pay you and can drag it out forever if/when attempt to litigate.

turn them into the bar association. not paying bills is an ethical violation

I threatened to turn one guy into the bar and had a check mailed to me that day
