The lack of respect for 2-time triple Platinum certified artist Jeff Foxworthy in this thread is astonishing.

Everybody mentioned previously are great. To be honest, I gotta give some more props to Jim Gaffigan. His latest Prime special was pretty funny and clean. That's a feat in my book.

Richard Pryor
Lenny Bruce
George Carlin
Joan Rivers

HM: Rock, Cosby, Chapelle, and Williams

From a pure talent POV Louis CK should replace Joan in the top 4 but his bits just never hit me. I probably laughed more at the Eddie Murphy specials because they came out when I was high school/college but when I watch them now they just seem so much less cerebral and are less rewatchable than the people I listed.

Lots of big names already mentioned.

I'm gonna throw in Cosby too.

Many comedians look at him as what got them into comedy.

Cosby had amazing standup and the ultra successful tv show. People must have forgotten how popular he was back in the day. Insanely popular.

It’s Mount Rushmore, guys, it’s not the best of the last 40 years. Bob Hope is unsurpassed. Bill Cosby was a giant, also. Maybe you eliminate Bill for the old rape thing, but his comedy was still great. I’m surprised Seinfeld wasn’t listed more. Here is Rolling Stone’s top 50, FYI

So underrated, its a shame he had the issues he did and took his life so young.

Not anywhere near the Rushmore gods, but Daniel Tosh & Anthony Jesilnik are freaking hilarious.
